Hygiene Questions Post-Surgery

I showered next day, in fact my IV stood in the bathroom on the other side of the shower door. I was closed with staples, and had steri-strips by the time I left the hospital. I showered basically every day - it helped me feel human.

I, too went for a shorter hair cut during recovery. My hair was long enough to tuck in the back of my jeans when I was getting dressed and now it just rests on my shoulders. It sure is cooler and less hassle, plus I didn't get all tangled up in it while I had the oxygen tubes up my nose.

I showered day after hyst. Felt great. DH was so wonderful and helped me...even washed my hair. It really made me feel much better. I like your idea about cutting your hair short....it would have made things much easier! That's whats so great about this site....sharing

shower

You don't have to worry about showering. I also shower every day. I had my surgery at 8:30 on a Wednesday morning and had the nurse help me get into the shower the next morning. It felt so good. They had a chair to sit on and a hand held shower so i could sit and wash my hair and clean myself. I showered every day after that. Good luck.

Thank you everyone for your responses and sharing your experience.

I think I will go get my hair cut short, just because it's at that length where it can't be braided yet and it's long enough to tangle and bother me. Besides, it's summer and I simply prefer not having hair on my neck.

I'm so glad to hear that I'll be able to shower within a day or so - I know that goes a long way to making me feel normal.
