need more time off, how do i get doc to give it

hi, i still have not been feeling well and i'm going for my 6 week postop visit next week. i have an infection, still, either a bladder or urinary tract, still have abdominal pain, and am having problems with bm's and still not getting good sleep. i'm afraid that since my doc has been such a creep that he'll say no to more time off of work. not like i've been out partying or anything that's for sure, buti don't think i'll be ready to go, what can i say to convince him to give me another 2 weeks? any advice
thanks

I think you should tell him just like you told us, let him know about your aches and pains. I don't know why he would't let you have extra time if you need it. I wish you the best and hope that you get to feeling better soon. Carol

You might want to bypass your doctor, that is -- if you have an understanding supervisor or HR person.

Even if your doctor says it's OK for you to come back to work (assuming you have more vacation or sick time available) you might want to ask for a week or two additional time off. Or maybe you could just ease into things.

As a boss, I know that as long as an employee has time accrued, I'm much more concerned about how the employee feels and I wouldn't want him or her to come back before they are ready.

Now, if you don't have any more time coming to you this year, that might make it more of an issue. But even so, if you go to your employer and say you'd like to try a modified schedule for a week or two, they are likely to think you're trying to work with them rather than against them. Just a thought.

I don't know what type of work you do or whatever but my place of employment has an option called personal leave. It's unpaid of course but it is available to all employees. We have a committee of hourly and salary employees that look over the application and vote as to whether or not the person gets the leave. Just a thought.

I went for my 6 week check (at 5 weeks) the beginning of this week. I point blank asked the dr. if he was comfortable letting me go back to work part time for a week. Not only was he comfortable with that, he wrote me out part time for two weeks.
