Ureter compression due to fibroids

I was scheduled for laproscopic surgery 2 weeks ago to remove my left ovary and tube. As it turned out they were fine. Both ultrasounds were wrong! Another unexpected cyst was removed on the other side, but I kept the ovary. Yeah! While the doctor was in there she noticed my uterus was a "mess." I have 2 large fibroids, one is twisting my uterus toward the right side and is beginning to compress on the right ureter. Has this ever happen to anyone? Also, I am having right side flank pain. It's tender to touch under my ribs on that side. Sometimes I can't even sleep on that side. Is this "normal"? I go in for my post-op next week, where we will discuss removing the uterus. There will be no love lost there! If anyone has good questions I should be asking, I'd welcome any tips. Any information about this is appreciated! Thanks!!!

Ureter compression due to fibroids

How did your post op appointment go? Was your doctor able to answer your questions? Will you be needing additional surgery or treatment for the fibroids?

I hope you are feeling better and and the right sided pain has eased! S

Ureter compression due to fibroids

Well, we discussed a LSH but she said it may turn to an open cut due to the size and she may not be able to see clearly behind it. She also sent to me to my regular DR to see about the side pain. That DR ordered a CAT scan. I still need to set up that appointment. Hopefully those result will help me make up my mind about the hysterecomy. I wish I had a crystal ball and it would tell me what to do. I really don't want to have an open cut, 6 weeks seems like an enternity to me. I teach and it would be hard to be off that long. I wish I could get a guarantee that the surgery would stay laproscopic. Thanks for asking

Re: Ureter compression due to fibroids

HI! I was wondering what the outcome of your hysterectomy was. I to think I have ureter compression. I've had fibroids, andenomyosis and recently had a D&C b/c of pain. I have the discomfort on the right flank under the ribs, and sometimes right back area where the kidney is. My doc gave me the option of having a hysterectomy which I've recently scheduled. If you had your hysterectomy, did it relieve that right side discomfort? Thanks so much!!
