Skin/near incision
I went back to the dr yesterday, 11 days post op... and my incision is draining but that is good as its healing. I am wondering if anyone has had this after their surgery. I am a little over weight with belly hang over the incision area of bikini line..near the incision my skin turned white and looked of as if it was burned...when washed and dried after shower I could see it lift in the mirror but it would lay back down, so I figured it was clean and made sure it was dry and put on a new dressing for the area draining. My dr was a bit concerned over this area as it was " dead " skin as he called it and told me it would take quite a while for it to heal...his option and what he felt was best was for me to go back to one of his prep rooms where he laid me down, numbed up my tummy very well..... cut out all the bad dead skin from this area and then suture the two good pieces together to aid in the healing process...other wise he said it could have take a month to heal being in a place that gets no air... I went along with it and come out with 8 stitches in my tummy...now dealing with the tugging of that... seems I take 3 steps forward and 1 step back...has anyone had this happen to them...just wondering..

Re: Skin/near incision
I understand the struggle of healing when the incision doesn't get air. I have a tummy that hangs over. I was told to be careful to keep it clean and dry (as you were too) and it did heal OK.
I sure hope your stitches heal and that you don't have to go through that again. Doesn't sound fun!
Best wishes!

Re: Skin/near incision
Hi Summer breeze - I too have the tummy problem and the incision was not getting any air. Mine drained for 3 months and kept developing an anaerobic infection (no oxygen). Even lying down was difficult to get air to the site without pulling on the incision. Lots of dressing changes, antibiotics and sugaring the site as a natural antiseptic finally got it close up. Peroxide was apparently killing the new cells which was prolonging the healing. Good luck. My doc says now that he should have cut my vertically for better healing but the horizontal incision gave him easier access. Oh well - today is my one year hysterversary and I survived!! Yahoo!!!!
