how many stitches?

I felt so good yesterday I decided to take a walk (it was day 5 p-o for me) I had no pain and felt amazingly good. My 2 block walk took longer than it does normally but no pain so I thought I was doing great, was pretty proud of myself actually. THEN I got home and discovered that I was bleeding, not a ton but since my bleeding had stopped 2 days after I was concerned, so I called the surgeon and bascially he said if you fill a pad in 2 hrs you need to be seen asap...then he said I needed to heed the cautions he gave and remember that even though I have no incision on the outside, I have pretty close to 500 inside, so quit being a ******* (yep he called me a *******, but obvioulsy I deserved it lol)
How does he even know that? I cannot imagine counting 500 stitches and not falling asleep or losing count an having to start over.

Is 500 stitches accurate? I mean it isn't that big of a space to close and 500 seems like a whole lot of stitches to me....

Do you know how many you got? IS close to 500 normal?

Re: how many stitches?

500 sounds about right. There are a lot of arteries and internal structures that have to be closed, reattached and moved around.

Re: how many stitches?

Your doctor has probably done many of these surgeries and knows how many stitches approximately it takes. You have massive amounts of internal healing going on that you can't see.You need to rest to heal properly. The problem with over doing things is we sometimes don't realize until after the fact.Start your walking slowly, maybe a half block, wait till the next day and if all is Ok next time increase the length of your walk just a wee bit. Gradually you'll be able to do more, but don't rush things.Too much activity can cause adhesion, scar tissue and many other problems you may not notice for years to come. You could end up needing repair surgery if you don't heal properly. Just relax and walk a little each day. I walked inside the house only for the first 4 weeks. Did slow laps around the living room and kitchen. I'm surprised I didn't wear a hole in the carpet.

Re: how many stitches?

I might be wrong, but 500 sounds a bit excessive to me. I wonder if he exaggerated the number to get his point across to you that you need to take it easy and give your insides a chance to heal.
