2 week post op appointment

Hello sisters!
Today I went for my 2 week post op appointment. My doc is out of town so I saw the nurse pract who is awesome as well. The outside stitches are healing nice, she said I can take the tape off. I also got a huge (loving) lecture that I'm doing WAY to much lol. She explained that I have a 2 inch incision in my whoo whoo that will come apart if I'm not careful.

Honestly, this has been the hardest thing of the surgery. I feel great on the outside so it's hard for me to "let go" and let other people do things for me. She said that I still need to rest for another 4 weeks! (I do after school programs so my job doesn't start until Sept).

The question is, what is the correct amount of activity at this stage? I'm not lifting anything heavy. But I'm going a little stir crazy!

As always, thanks for the support

Re: 2 week post op appointment

It is very easy to go stir crazy. You shouldn't be doing much of anything physically except walking. The biggest thing is to listen to your body - if it feels slightly painful now, it will cause more pain later.

Just say "no" to housework - most of it requires either bending, lifting, or other stretching that can strain your abdominal area. Some things you can do might be reading books in the sun, learn to crochet or knit, plan an upcoming vacation, write letters to older family members, etc. If you are a real get up and go person, see if you can go visit a nearby nursing home, and perhaps read out loud to some people.

I know!! It's the whoo whoo incision , cannot wait to get the stitches out at 6 week post op!! It's hard, but Ty to take time during the day to rest, you will heal faster!!

Re: 2 week post op appointment

I agree with everyone here. Even in the one and two weeks post op videos they say "rest" I also know what you mean by overdoing it too. I also just had my two week post op appointment today and he says Ia m doing great, but he also said not to lift anything heavier than ten pounds.

Re: 2 week post op appointment

At two weeks I was finally back up to my normal stride and speed when walking. I started expanding my walking repertoire to add steep hills (which also drastically increased my geographic range!).

Besides the walking, I was doing deep breathing exercises to get my belly muscles back into the habit of supporting my diaphragm, gentle stretches and arm exercises with a pair of light barbells (5 lbs each). I didn't have any whoo whoo incisions, though, just 7" vertical one up my belly.
