Going back to school in two weeks...other teachers in the same boat?

cjr89,
My classroom is almost up and running. I was able to put in 2 full days last week organizing and having meetings. The thing I am having a difficult time with is my mood swings....and I kept my ovaries! My DS is leaving for college Tuesday and I am having a hard time keeping my emotions in check. All the men in my house just roll their eyes and pat me on the head. It's tough dealing with estrogen issues when the house is SO FULL OF TESTOSTERONE!! (Even the dog's a boy!) We may bring DS's girlfriend along on the trip just to even up all the hormones crammed into the car. WISH US LUCK!!

Going back to school in two weeks...other teachers in the same boat?

I am back to school and in the swing of things. I have completed a full week of teaching. The students are great. My classroom is not decorated, but I teach high school so not much is said. I am surprised how good I feel. I do feel tried at the end of the day and a bit sore and swollen, but nothing that I need meds for. I have my 6 week check next week so I pray all goes well. Have a great school year everyone..

Lori1800,

Your story is particularly encouraging to me. Your hyst was 10 days prior to mine, your students arrived 8 days prior, and your surgery appears to be similar to mine. I also had adenomyosis.

I hope I can share a first-week experience similar to yours a week from now! Thanks for sharing!

Going back to school in two weeks...other teachers in the same boat?

The first workday is on Wednesday...Kids come back next Tuesday...Like others, I feel like I spent my summer recouperating, but I figured our trip to the beach two weeks ago would be the measuring stick of how I am really doing--LAVH on 18 June...It was great. My incisions are still sore, but otherwise, I'm doing okay. As long as the air conditioning works and the windows open in my classroom, I'll be fine. Open House is Friday. I'm not much of a room decorator, so as long as I get my desks arranged, and paper on the bulletin boards, I'm good!

Going back to school in two weeks...other teachers in the same boat?

Hey fellow teachers!
I've been in my room the past few weeks, taking my time moving things (I know...not supposed to do that!) and decorating. We've had an inservice (new math series...yeah), and will have a few more before we officially start next Monday the 25th. I feel pretty much back to normal, but I'm worried that putting in a full day with little kids will set me back a bit. It's different when you can stop and sit down, go to the bathroom (although that's better after surgery, whoohoo.....), get a drink, or even leave. However, working in the heat (no a/c!) all day may be tough.

Good luck to everyone! J-
p.s. Is anyone else who kept their ovaries having hormonal problems? It's getting better, but sometimes I feel like I'm on the witchy roller coaster!

I'm so upset that I can't go back.

My sister is taking me up tomorrow to try to set up the room while I make up sub plans. I am just so upset. The sub I'm getting is good, but she isn't a Social Studies teacher. I know I'm going to have to make plans but it just won't be like me being there at the beginning. I am so depressed. I can't stop crying and my husband , who is so understanding, has been trying to help me but he just doesn't really understand. A two inch section of my incision has not closed and is infected and I have no idea when I can go back.

Oh, btuck, I am so sorry! Your surgery was the day before mine, so I know where you are in this process. I'm worried about starting on Tuesday, and I don't have an infection. I understand how frustrating it is to start with a sub. Take care of yourself, though. Keep us posted on how you're doing.

btuck, I'm glad you're letting us know how you're feeling. The start of this school year will be quite different for you, but the kids will be okay. You just need to take care of yourself so that you can get back to them when you are ready. They can get their "real" social studies from you later.

I don't know how far away you live from the school, and it sounds like you teach middle or high school--is there any way for you to meet all of your classes during their first week back? You may already be planning that--coming in for 15 minutes each period (maybe 1 period a day) just to say "hi" and to tell them that you'll be looking at their work and thinking of them every day--and to tell them that you'll be taking very good care of yourself to get back to them as quickly as possible.

You just need to take care of yourself. No one really understands how hard it is for us to be away from our students--that is, except other teachers. :-)

Remember that we'll be thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way. Do let us know how you're doing.
