Wrapping my mind around having a hysterectomy (5/18)

I also noticed earlier this week that I seemed to spot more when doing walking more than to my car and back. On monday of this week I walked with my daughter from her apt into town. It is a one mile walk each way. When we got back to her place the spotting was an intense red color. If I don't do too much the spotting is a brownish color.

I am wondering what the color difference means and if I need to be concerned?

I also need to know since I am noticing the color change too when I am more active if I need to be careful?
If I walk, exercise, etc. I have spotting...if I overexert I have full blown bleeding. It has been this way for several months...the doctor said it was because of my female issues. However he was not concerned and told me I could exercise as usual with no risk of injury pre-surgery.

Re: Wrapping my mind around having a hysterectomy

GKayte - I think you are going to feel so much better after your surgery and a little recovery! I haven't been on the site in a while, but am 8 weeks post-surgery tomorrow and feel like a new woman. The last two weeks have been exhausting as I have gone back to work full time, but I think even though everyone heals at a different rate that overall the end result is completely worth it. A woman I work with had a hysterectomy about 18 weeks ago and today told me that she feels like a new woman, said she can't even remember having surgery and is so happy with all of her "old life" behind her. I feel sort of the same way, have not forgotten surgery but it seems so much farther back than just 8 weeks. I feel so so much better just having so many issues behind me. It is worth every minute of the surgery and recovery, in my opinion. I feel better, I'm not grouchy, my depression of 14 years is remarkably better (I'm off anti-depressants for the first time in that many years and doing great!). I'm on vivelle patch and have not have much of an issue with hot flashes, some night sweats but not bad like before surgery. I'm sleeping and not anemic!! I've joined the ranks of women that I have talked to that have said, "I wish I could have had it sooner" because for me it has made my life different. I feel free for the first time in over 2 years and didn't realize how bad I felt before! I can't wait to hear how you are feeling afterwards - I've been thinking about you and wanted to check in before your surgery.

Re: Wrapping my mind around having a hysterectomy

Additionally, I think the advice from this site about getting copies of the path and surgery reports was good. I requested mine and found that I had more fibroids and cysts than I even knew, which made me feel better about my decision to have everything removed. In my case, it set my mind at ease that I made the right decision for me.

Re: Wrapping my mind around having a hysterectomy

I am now a day before surgery.

I have anxiety and it has been really high. My bowels have been cramping since yesterday. It was unbearable. Today I hadn't even started the bowel prep for surgery and ended up in messy pants because I didn't make it to the bathroom in time.

I am working at staying hydrated. So far I am okay. I worry about dehydration.

I am also looking forward to being past all this.

I'm sorry you're so nervous. Try to relax if you can. You're almost there! Once you get to the hospital tomorrow they will give you something to relax in pre-op. I was one happy girl being wheeled into the OR.

Best wishes tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you.

Re: Wrapping my mind around having a hysterectomy

Thank you for your support. It is always nice to have a hug when things are not going as I thought.

I will be one happy girl after this. It is just getting to the "other side".
