I am so scared and confused.....
Hi All,
I have been trying to post a message here for days, I finally got help a bit ago. I am new here and want to tell what is going on with me.
I am 47, found out I have a cyst on my ovary and I have fibroids as well. I had a CA125 bloodtest done which was negative. The gyno put me on Loestrin birth control to try to shrink the cyst but I developed horrible migraines from it so he has taken me off them.Gyno thinks the cyst may shrink on it's own.I have an appt. Sept 27 for a vaginal ultrasound to see how things look, gyno says maybe a cyst removal, partial hys or total hysterectomy. I have heavy bleeding, blood clots, irregular periods. I am just so confused at this point as to what I should do. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks so much.
Diane

Hi and welcome to Hystersisters! I completely agree with the last post about how much you can learn from the ladies here! They are all a great source of information!
If you are at all concerned about your GYN's decision to do a hysterectomy please get a 2nd or even a 3rd opinion, you need to make the decision that is best for you! Read the posts from the other women here and please don't be afraid to ask any questions, no matter how silly you think it may be! The only silly questions are ones that aren't asked!! We are always here for you! BIG s to you! and come visit us in chat sometime It is a great way to get "real time" answers to your questions also! Please let me know how you are doing!

Hi Diane,
Right now there is nothing for you to decide. Between now and the test, read all over on this site as the girls above suggested. If you want to read about something special use the purple search button at the top. Put in your word and then you will get the conversations on that topic.
Also, use the links...a post near the top of each forum and check out the home page that has pull down menus. Read about fibroids, and ovarian cysts treatment options. Keep pen and paper and take notes or push Print if you have a printer.
After you read and have more questions, post your question here and we'll try to help you out. We will tell you our experience or what we have read...always follow through with the same question to your doctor. Soon you will have a nice list for your doctor when you go for your test. Like, "if you remove the cyst, what are the chances more will come?" Take a friend or hubby to have someone else help to listen or take notes. After your test results are in, then you will take the time needed for a decision on surgery. Always ask for all the options to surgery.
When the doctor first says the word hysterectomy to us...we leave usually reeling with shock. We run to our (library) computer and start searching for knowledge. Continue to look at other sites ( or links) and continue to post here. You will find alot of support. You did well posting your thread. If you want to continue this talk just go to the bottom and click on" reply to this thread. " When you think of a new question post a New Thread.
Hang in there, OK?

That is nice that your blood test was negative. That is a good first step. The ultrasound will help the doctor find out how big the cysts are and if you have fibroids or other things that may require more surgery than just removal of the ovary.
I agree, read more posts and find other links also on ovarian cysts. That can help you a lot. That is how I found this site, I was looking for answers for my hormonal problems that I was having post op and I read a post from someone that was having exactly the same problem as I was....this place is a god send...I know that I keep saying that but it really is.
TAH/BSO 8/20/02 for fibroids & endo... on IM hormones for severe menopausal symptoms.
