TAH - Positive Post-Op Experience
Hello everyone,
I had my TAH on Dec 19th and I wanted to share my very positive experience.
Before going in I had many people (close friends included) telling me about their experiences. Many of their stories had me sobbing, scared out of my wits and stressed beyond belief. I was certain I would be incapacitated, helpless, drugged out of my mind and in pain / recovery for many weeks, if not months before I was feeling 'right' again. So far, my experience has been nothing like what they described.
I was only in hospital two days and asked for my morphine drip to be removed on the morning after my sugery. I took two extra strength advil twice a day for four days before discontinuing all pain medications. My body is healing well, I'm expecting to be driving at two-weeks post-op. I have minor swelly-belly but it is restricted to the area of the incision and I am confident it will decrease as that area heals. I'm able to walk up and down stairs without discomfort and I can function normally with the exception of getting people to do 'heavy' household chores like snowshoveling, carrying laundry, etc.
I just wanted to send a ray of sunshine and hope to everyone that, like me, was so stressed pre-op about the recovery experience. I realize not everyone heals the same way or at the same rate ... but that doesn't mean everyone is going to have a terrible experience either.
Hang in their my future crowned sisters ... you have the strength to get through it - and you will.

TAH - Positive Post-Op Experience
Congrats on making it through, sounds as though your experience was very similar to mine. I do wish well-meaning friends would skip some of the details of their surgeries! Everyone's experience will be different. I'm sure my friends and family got a bit tired of hearing how absolutely GREAT I felt after my surgery.

TAH - Positive Post-Op Experience
oh me too! I couldn't of wished for a more
positive experience. I feel like a brand new lady!
For the 1st time in 4 years I can actually sleep on
my belly again! I'm so excited, can't hardly wait
till spring arrives so I can get outside & ride horses.
Before my hysterectomy I was in so much pain,
it was affecting my lifestyle in more ways than one.
I was begining to "think to myself" that death must
be better than "this" ~ ugh, it was truly awful....
I don't even want to "think about it" now!
a fellow barrel racing buddy told me about
this site prior to my surgery, so I decided to
mosey on over here....
wow, I was about scared half out of my mind
reading some of these ladies stories ~ I feel bad
for each & every one of them. As no woman
deserves to go thru that type of pain & suffering!
May God Bless You All with continued
and complete healing....

You are my soul sister!
You truly are my soul sister! I, too, feel fabulous. No more back pain!!! My demerol drip came out in 24 hours and I'm off everything right now. When for a checkup yesterday. My doctor told me that as long as I didn't lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk, I was good to go with rest when needed! I am glad that all those awful stories my friends told me preop did not come true!
