bleeding heavy

Started my period on Sunday, bleeding heavy-- wearing DEPENDS along with super plus tampons. I was given a zoladex shot 2 weeks ago dr. want to stop the bleeding to build my blood up. Too anemic for surgery. Also take Prempro and iron with vitamin C. I spoke to the dr yesterday and told him that I had started(I thought the shot would stop my cycle) which he explaind that some people have their cycle 1 or 2 imes during the TX. I was content after talking to him-- Now this morning I am bleeding very heavy changing ever 30 minutes-- Don't know if this is right or what it will do to my iron level. -- normally for me 1 to 2 hours and then change is good--- I am so unhappy cant wait for all this to be resolved. Of course my employer is very understanding-- I cant work under this condition once the flow slows down and I can get out of the depends underwear I will go back to work LOL!! any feedback would be great.

bleeding heavy

Hi Daisy
Sorry you are having all the bleeding. I too had problems with anemia, I use to flood for about 3 days every month, which isn't a lot really, after reading some of the threads on this site I realise some women bleed weeks at a time. I was always anemic and I still am even 6mths post hyst. My iron levels were very very low before surgery and I didn't even know at the time that it was a risk factor, I had a cancer scare so I suppose that was the last thing on my mind but I also presumed the onc/gyno wouldn't do it if it was risky?????

Do you know what your levels are? My iron stores (Ferritin) was 3.0 and my haemoglobin levels were really low but I'm not sure exactly what they were. It's a bit scary to think about it now, because I was really sick and nauseous after surgery, maybe the low iron had something to do with that.

Wishing you the best, hope all goes to plan with your surgery.

bleeding heavy

I have had periods like that - racing to rest room every 20-30 minutes changing super plus tampon and overnight pad - never thought of depends, probably would have saved me some laundry! If I coughed I could expel plug accidentally.

TMI, I know. Sorry.

Anyway, I know some people actually hemorrhage, but I always knew my bleeding would eventually subside.

I am anemic (HGB about 8.0-10.0 even with LOTS of iron supplements).

One book by Dr. Allan Warshowsky recommends some natural tinctures (yarrow, red raspberry and shepherd's purse) to avoid an ER visit when flooding. Those apparently work as astringents and cause body's mucous membranes to shrink up and the bleeding stops or lessens. OBVIOUSLY consult your doctor if you are worried about hemorrhaging! Also, when I tried the tinctures, ALL my body's mucous membranes shrunk up - especially the ones in my nose. I had a very dry nose prone to bleeding for quite a while.

Good luck - this doesn't sound normal for you. Somehow it became normal for me and I wasn't scared. I work from a home office, so can trek to my personal bathroom and change clothes or shower if I need to. Never realized how much that was worth!

Hugs dear sister!

-k.
