pre-op testing
Hello Cynthia,
I had my surgery last month. At my pre-op appt, I first saw my surgeon who gave me a complete physical. Then I went to the hospital to pre-register and have blood work done. I also met with a nurse who told me what to do, expect and bring with me the morning of my surgery.
That made the whole thing reality for me so I was a bit upset when I drove home. You may want to take someone with you for support. Anyway, all went well as I hope your surgery will too.

pre op testing-what happens?
Mine was very easy and not typical of some of the women here. I think they all vary somewhat. I had my finger pricked, and my weight taken. Then I saw my dr. and she wanted to do an exam to make sure things were all o.k. for the lavh. Then she listened to my lungs and heart. Asked me all the history questions and that was it. I was in and out of there in under an hour. I also was given my bowel prep info and info the castle wanted me to have for addmition. Hope this helps a little.

preop testing
Cynthia...
I am not sure how your dr handles your preop testing. This is my experience with my preop.
Went to my drs office and was given a hyster video to view. Then the nurse brought me back to an exam room. Shortly after that, my dr came in and did a short exam (listened to my heart, lungs, looked in my throat, ect.). There was no pelvic because I had just had one in April and this was June. I think this exam was just to make sure I was not ill (exam was June 1, surgery June 7).
After that my dh and I went to my drs private office where he went over the procedure, recovery and my dh and I were able to ask any questions we had.
When I arrived at the hospital the day of my surgery, they drew blood and checked my blood pressure and pulse and had me put on the beautiful gown and compression stockings. That is all the testing I had done.
Hope this did not ramble and is helpful. I am sending you presurgery 's and hope everything goes well with your surgery and recovery.

pre op testing-what happens?
I think it is pretty much the same for everyone.
I met with my Doc who also performed the Surgery (what a deal). They did the weight, the question and answer, he checked my Temp, Blood pressure, looked in ears and throat.
Then I was off to Hospital for theri pre-op. Basicly filled out buch of paper work (wondered if I was signing up for military service or a mortgage), paid my co-pay. Then they took 2 small vials of blood. Then I had to talk to the admition Nurse. More questions about history like any previous operations and allergies to medication, stuff like that. She then decided that because I have a history of asthma, they needed a chest x-ray. So off I went for that. My pre-op was on a Friday and my surgery on the following Tuesday, so I had to come back the day before the surgery to get my Blood Type (took another vial of blood and explained that blood is only good for 3 days so the establishing of blood type can not be done more than 72 hours in advance. And they do not believe you when you say that you know your type and I even showed her my Blood Alliance Donor Card. I guess they do that so no one can sue them).
And that was it. Next day to Surgery (by the way more questions like they need to make sure you are who you say you are).
Hope your Surgery goes well and a quick and painless minimum 6 week recovery.
Patty

Hi Cynthia
The day before surgery, I went to the hospital. There they did blood work, a chest X-ray (I smoke), checked my blood pressure, & took temp. They don't want to do a surgery if you are sick or running a fever.
They gave me the surgical hose then too. And instructed me on how to put them on. I was to put them on first thing the morning of surgery, before I got out of bed, & wear them to the hospital. I had them on during surgery, and for 10 days after I got home from the hospital (stayed 4 days), except when they needed washing. At the end of 10 days, I hated those hose!!!!
If your doc wants you to wear them, be sure and have someone lotion up your feet when you have the hose off for washing. My heels and feet really dried out from those hose. They go all the way up past your knees to mid thigh area. My doc prescribed them for any circulation problems that might have come up, I never had any problems. I wore a long lounging dress to & from the hospital. My hose were white as snow until my hubby thru them in with a load of wash that had a blue gown in it, then they were a pale shade of blue!!!
The nurse at the hospital that pre surgery day also explained the anesthic & told me who the anetheisologist (sp ???) would be. They asked alot of questions about allerigic reactions, medical history, and the like.
Good luck with your visit to the castle. Check in when you are able. This site was and still can be my best friend for answers.
Take Care,
