Heavy lifting at job?

Hello everyone. I a new here and just found out last Thursday that I would be finally having a hysterectomy in April/07. Where I work I have to lift 25kg (55 pound) bags everyday (anywhere from 10 - 50 or more). Does anyone else have a job like this? I just wonder how long I will have to wait after my surgery (vaginal/laprascopic?) before getting back to lifting that much wait, again. And, for that matter, if lifting that much weight everyday thereafter is going to cause me any grief (vaginal prolapse, etc). Any info would be much appreciated.
I have been requesting a hysterectomy for the past 5 years. Now, last months period and (so far) this months hasn't been too bad (last month was 12 days long and this month it has been 8 days ... so far). I am 49 years old. Now, I have the dilema of wondering if I am finally entering menopause or is my period just "fooling" with me (it does this a couple of times a year). My shortest period in the past 5 years has been 11 days. Clots are big, and pains sharper. I also had a ablation in Aug/05, which didn't work. Ok, sorry for the long posting ... I am laying awake at night now worrying about: not being able to do my job; and if I am doing the right thing. Geez ... and here I thought, once I got the go ahead, that I would be doing cartwheels ... of sorts ... lol. THanks!

Heavy lifting at job?

This is definitely something I would address with your dr. right away so you know what you're dealing with.
I'm on lifting restrictions of less than 12lbs for three months and not sure after that yet. I may have some sort of permanent restrictions after that.

Heavy lifting at job?

At 7 weeks I went back to work part time with a 10 pd lifting restriction. And mine is a desk job. I think it depends on which type of hysto you have and your own personal recovery.

Heavy lifting at job?

Thank you for your input. I will be calling my gyno tomorrow to ask some more questions. I have been doing the same job for the past two years and quite enjoy it, so would hate to see it change in any way due to not being able to lift ... or if they have to find someone else. Thank you again!

Heavy lifting at job?

I am in the wine business. A case of wine weighs anywhere from 45-60 pounds. My surgery was in September and I am still not lifting many cases. I *might* be able to, but my Dr. told me to hold off until after the first of the year if I could.

I have done what I can not to lift much. I do notice fatigue if I do lift too much.

Each of us will be different in recover, but definately tell your Dr. what you do on a daily basis. This will tell him/her what they need to provide to your employer to allow you to earn a living, yet not jepordize your recovery.
