peritoneum scar tissue severe and still in a lot of post op pain

Hello, I had a total laproscopic hysterectomy done last Friday. My surgeon said I had severe scar tissue that she removed and that my peritoneum was now completely raw because of all the scrapping she had to do. Does this mean my recovery will be longer than the estimated 6 weeks? Today is day 7 and I am still in a lot of pain, can't get up from chair or bed by myself and having nauseous feeling most of the day so I'm afraid to take too much pain Meds. I am also having a burning and bad taste in my mouth. Any suggestions

You really want to stay on top of the pain meds. Your body will use the energy to combat the pain instead of going to healing. If you think it's the meds causing nausea can you have them call you in something else. Also are you eating I know I lost my appetite but you have to eat anyway to take the meds.

It's funny that you mentioned the bad taste in your mouth. I had the daVincic robotics method on 12/21 and last night I had to get out of bed and get a mint. I told my husband that my mouth tasted like metal. I thought maybe it was something I had eaten.

I've not had any problem and the breath mint did the trick. Hope you're doing better.

Maybe from the anesthesia? I just remember none of my food tasting good and in fact, I hated cheese for months after surgery and it is one of my favorite foods. I still do not like it as much as I once did. I also could only drink water. Everything else was disgusting.

Re: peritoneum scar tissue severe and still in a lot of post op pain

Thank you Lainey and Pines. The Dr called today and she said she really didn't know about the bad taste or burning other than I had a lot of Meds during surgery for nausea so maybe a side effect. She is changing my pain Meds and suggested that I really try to take them so I can rest to help in the healing process. Food isn't really tasting all that good and my stomach is constantly gurgling and growing even though I'm making sure I eat.

Make sure you drink lots of water. I know there's also an antibiotic ( I think it's Biaxin) that use to give me a metal mouth taste. So it could just be the meds we're on.
