How much pain should I be in?

Well I'm 5 days post op and in a LOT of pain that comes along in waves. He took out everything. I think the lingo is LAVH? It did not appear that I have cancer from the frozen analysis during surgery, but of course it all gets sent for more thorough analysis which I'll get results from on Tuesday at my follow-up exam. My question is how much pain do others seem to have? I normally have a very high tolerance for pain so wasn't prepared for this!

Re: Possible Ovarian Cancer - Necessary to take the Uterus?

It's been a while since my surgery, and I do recall the pain would come and go, but I don't recall being in "a lot" of pain per se. Of course, pain is one of those subjective things and some amount is normal. If you aren't getting adequate pain control, it might be a good idea to give the office a call and run your pain levels/durations by them to see if they need to adjust your meds, etc. No need to suffer in silence!

Sounds like good news that frozen sections were negative. We'll keep the thoughts and prayers coming for an equally dull path report!

Re: How much pain should I be in?

My doctors and nurse told me that I shouldn't let my pain get above a 4 or 5 before taking pain meds. If you are above that, it is too hard to get on top of the pain. So if the pain meds you have now are not working, you need to call your doctor back and come up with a better system to help you control it. You will heal much better if you are not in pain.

I am sending some in the hope you feel better soon.
