Brain Zaps

Hi everyone. Sorry I keep posting. I really feel as though I've had everything removed and just been left to fend for myself. Nobody has spoken to me about any side effects other than the obvious pain and hot flushes.
Today I found myself suddenly very emotional and teary, and having brain zaps. I've had these before, as I am on Effexor and if I forget a dose, the brain zaps are one of the withdrawal symptoms. But now I'm getting them on their own. I looked it up, and apparently it is a known side effect of having the ovaries removed. Here's what I learned:
"Once the ovaries are removed, your body immediately stops producing estrogen and progesterone. Your follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) will skyrocket in an attempt to make contact with ovaries that no longer exist. Unlike women who go through menopause naturally, women wake up after a bilateral oophorectomy in immediate estrogen withdrawal. It's that sudden: One day you have a normal menstrual cycle, the next day you have none whatsoever. This can cause you to become, understandably, more depressed, and you'll also feel the physical symptoms of estrogen loss far more intensely than a woman in natural menopause.

Symptoms can include:
Hot flashes, flushes, night sweats and/or cold flashes, clammy feeling
Bouts of rapid heart beat
Irritability
Mood swings, sudden tears
Trouble sleeping through the night (with or without night sweats)
Loss of libido
Vaginal dryness
Crashing fatigue
Anxiety, feeling ill at ease
Feelings of dread, apprehension, doom
Difficulty concentrating, disorientation, mental confusion
Memory lapses
Itchy, crawly skin
Headache change: increase or decrease
Depression
Electric shock sensation under the skin and in the head
Tingling in the extremities
Osteoporosis
Changes in fingernails: softer, crack or break easier"

I am quite devastated today. Honestly, I feel so let down by the hospital system. I mean, I don't know what I should have expected, having been through cancer, but I was a private patient then, and 2 of my specialists were very knowledgeable and informative.
My follow up appointment isn't for another 6 weeks. Until then, what the hell am I supposed to do? How long will these brain zaps last for? What should I be doing to combat the effects of having no oestrogen? I am not allowed HRT because I am at risk of a recurrence of breast cancer. So am I just supposed to plod along like an idiot? Sorry, I am emotional and a bit angry right now, but I guess that's another side effect they didn't tell me about.
Should I be talking to a naturopath? A gynaecologist? Who would specialise in the ongoing effects of surgical menopause???
I am alone.

It really isn't easy being a woman. I have my ovaries but experience some of these symptoms including the "electric shock feeling". I am waiting out a lot of these symptoms since I do not want to be put on HRT. Just a personal choice. I try on focus on other things during the day. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. On bad days I rest a little more.

Since you have been through cancer, HRT may not be an option for you but there are other meds even if you just take them for a little while that can make you feel better. I am on Xanax for an anxiety disorder that seem to help with the above symptoms.
