What Next

My obgyn called yesterday to let me know that they were looking at May 7th to set me up for my hysterectomy.Besides all of the questions I have for my doctor , i just found out that after 3 weeks off of work for medical leave (even with a doctor excuse ) an employee is terminated. So now besides all of the questions I have now I have to decided if losing my job is what I can do right now. The nurse told me that I would be off 6 to 8 weeks and it might be longer since they want to fix my bladder at the same time. Does anyone know if an employer can legally do this even with a doctor excuse.

The surgrey can be put off for awhile )it all depends on how much longer I can live with the pain ( and right now the doctor can't tell me if the surgrey is even going to relieve me of any of the pain ) I'am looking into alot of information right now and I'am asking alot of questions so i can make to best choice it's just the last thing that I needed to hear was that if I do decide to have the surgrey I'll lose my job (and right now I can't afford to lose my job )

This has become such I major issue. If the doctor could just give me something to give me some relief so I could think a little clearer it might help.

You should check with your local state employement agency and also I do think that there is a Federal Law that prevents an employer from terminating an employee who is on medical leave. Start making some calls, asset your rights. What your employer is telling you I do believe is against the law.

I've read most of your posts and would really like to urge you to get a second opinion on this, bringing along all the records from your laparoscopic surgeries and perhaps looking for a doctor who specializes in endometriosis and in prolapse in case you have either or both of those things. I'd really worry about going into this surgery without a little more firm diagnosis and at least some information about how thorough the removal of the endo was that was seen last time.

Endo is such a common cause of pain, and if you could have your endo successfully addressed in a laparoscopic surgery, that could make a big difference in your pain and have a much shorter recovery.

I also agree that SOME doctor needs to give you better pain meds so you can make your decision in your own time and not be rushed. If your doctor is not willing or able to address your pain management problems, maybe another doctor could come up with a better option for you there, too. I wish you great good luck with this.

About the job situation (which is HORRIBLE), you might ask whether your employer is large enough to be covered by the federal Family Medical Leave Act, which should protect you from automatic dismissal. Some businesses are exempt. That's so awful that they could or would do that to you, that they think their employees are so expendable. Big to you, and good luck with your search!
