Smartest thing I've every done, or dumbest?

I was asked if I wanted to move up my surgery due to a cancellation. I was delighted to do so, even though it left me less than two days in the office to wrap things up. I spent the Sunday before my Monday surgery at home resting at first and then doing bowel prep. Since it's just DH and me, I didn't have the need to do meals in advance, etc. I was glad I was busy.

I agree, busy is better. I've read several posts where ladies put up frozen meals for post op recovery - never dawned on me to do that but it's a great idea.

I was told I'd need no less than 6 weeks off work for recovery. I scheduled 7 weeks off and let everyone know that I would return no sooner, even if I felt good. That way there was no pressure on me to return to work until I'd taken the time to heal.

Hi Laurie,

My last three days at work are due to be very busy. I am working right up until Wednesday evening. I am finding that I'm not as stressed at work as when I am at home just thinking, thinking and thinking about my surgery.

I think you have made the right choice -

I have intentionally increased my work schedule for the next couple of weeks prior to my surgery just to keep myself busy & not allow myself to sit around being idle because that is when my mind starts to wander & I get myself all freaked out or emotional about things. For me it was a smart choice, if not I would have driven myself crazy!

All the best to you! I am 4 days after you & will have you in my thoughts & prayers!

I think that it depends on the timing.

I took the week off - BUT, I had already been off for 2 weeks. I was on my Christmas vacation and had planned to go back to work on January 7th. During my vacation, my surgery got scheduled for January 11th. I had to do the grand and wonderous bowel prep on the 10th so it made no sense to go back. I went in on the 7th and did all of the paperwork necessary to be off for 6 weeks and left.

I think that had the timing been different, I would have worked. But given the situation, being off was great for me. And if I had it to do again - same or very similar situation - I would do the same thing.

I don't know about this, Dancing. I think you also need to learn a new language, join at least three bookclubs, found a new religion, and save Darfur. You still have, what, almost two weeks?

Let us know how that works out for you, OK?

I used to work as a LSec for a criminal lawyer, private practice - so I get your fears about taking care of your clients and having someone else deal with your cases - but that's what your friends are for. Chances are you have a good idea whether there would be anything that requires immediate attention beforehand that week right - LOL!! You are an organized woman - it's all good!! Good luck!

Ducky, you are TOO funny!!! I've been feeling really upbeat for about a week, and now today, I'm crying at *******' commercials, for pete's sake. The @#$@ hormones are driving me crazy...and of course this means that I must be getting ready to start my period in a few days, but at least it will be the last.

so, back to your list, I think I can learn a new language, there are already too many religions, I'll send good vibes in Darfur's direction...but I'm not sure I can squeeze in the bookclubs...so maybe I'll start a blog, instead.

Thank you Ducky (do you like my new name for you?!)...I needed/enjoyed the laugh.

Both of you are crackin' me up.

And I'm going to use some of those ideas now that I'm recovering because I have to say I was bored out of my mind on Day 2. It's not looking good for the remaining 5 weeks. LOL
