I Can't Take It Anymore HELP

Let me start off with medical info.
2002 I had a ovarian cyst removed that was so large I had to be hospitalized for 4 days with a drain coming out of my abdomen.
2004 I had a cyst that was painful and ruptured but not quite large enough they needed to do surgery.
In 2007 I had a tubal ligation where they found endometriosis and removed it. They also attempted to do a thermal ablation and were not able to complete it as my cervix was dialated to much.
I have had alot of pain associated with ovulating, menstratation, and intercourse. I have probably needed another surgery to remove more endo lesions for 3 yrs. I have extremely heavy periods with clots.
January I went to ER with extreme abdomenal and back pain. They found that I had a cyst that had just ruptured and another one about to rupture. (they were blood filled cysts)Was given pain
meds and told to follow up with GYN.
Followed up and told him all my concerns. He said that he wanted to
1.do a uteran biopsy
2. cryo ablation to deal with periods,
3. surgery to remove more endometriosis and possible scar tissue from prior surgeries inlcuding 2 c sections
4. Lupron depot

I have had the first 2 done with no sedation or numbing of that area might I add. I am still very upset about the amount of pain I endured during the ablation. Imagine if I often have pain from intercourse what it would feel like to have an instrument being put into my uterus with no cervcal dialation prior.
I had the ablation a week and a half ago and I am still in extreme pain from it.
I am just so done. I think I am just ready to have a hysterectomy. I think I neeed to go to a different doctor though as I feel that maybe he is having me do all these steps as a way for him to make more money. I also feel he has no consideration for the pain that women go through. (at least 3 other women who used to go to him agree as well as a doctor who used to work with him)
What Should I do???

Sorry So Long

Re: I Can't Take It Anymore HELP

100% you need to get a second or even a third opinion. Don't worry about this as it is your right and doctors understand this. I have gone thru all types of similar issues and changed doctors. It makes a huge difference! If you are done having kids, then have the hyster. Why continue to go thru this? My sister said it perfectly: "The uterus is good for two things, growing babies and growing cancer. If your done with the first, don't wait for the second."

I am having a uterin biopsy next Thurs as a pre-op just in case. Knowledge is power right? Anyway, my doc offered me pain meds and valium and all kinds of support. You need that going through all this. If you are not happy with his bedside manner, go see someone else. You deserve to feel comfortable with him. Trust is important, Your life is in his hands!

Hang in there! I totally sympathize with all you have been through and unfortunately as you age it will only get worse not better (at least until menopause).

Re: I Can't Take It Anymore HELP

BTW, I am not a doctor but if the Ablation works properly, you shouldn't need Lupron. If you do Lupron, you shouldn't need ablation, at least not for awhile. I did Lupron and it COMPLETELY stops your periods. It puts you in menopause so why would you need both? You can only take a certain amount of Lupron though. I was opting for an ablation but was told my uterus is much too large for ablation to work properly and would have to come back in about 6 months for the hyster anyway. Why have two proceedures? In your case why have so many??? Do more research and get another opinion.

Re: I Can't Take It Anymore HELP

Hello,

Did we see that same doc?!! I had really bad cramps during my monthly periods. Doc suggested ablation may help. I had ablation on Sept 19. I was in severe pain for 3 weeks! I continued to have pain everyday after that. Doc didn't know why and wasn't sure if pain would go away. I knew he didn't want to take the time to investigate what could be causing the pain and was more concerned with getting to his next patient. I was on Naproxen 550mg twice a day to manage pain. He wanted me to take Lupron to see if pain would go away, but I was against it. If it didn't work, then I would still be in pain and have the side effects of the Lupron. I asked him if I needed a hysto. He didn't want to hear it and was pushing the Lupron. My gut feeling said he wasn't looking out for me, but for the money.

I went for a second opinion. It felt weird going to another doc, but I knew I had to. The second doc was great! He diagnosed me with adenomyosis (the other doc never diagnosed me) and agreed I needed a hysto. He took the time to sit with me and explain why I needed the surgery, what would be done during surgery, how he would correct any complications if they came up and recovery. He was so thorough in his explanation.

The pain I experienced from the ablation is gone! I had my surgery on Feb 15 and today I just have a little bit of cramping which doc says will go away and to exercise.

You should definitely go for a 2nd and maybe also a 3rd opinion. I'm so glad I did. I would call your current doc and see if he can't get you meds for the pain. Naproxen really helped me. Good luck with everything! You will be in my prayers!

Hugs,
Suzy

Re: I Can't Take It Anymore HELP

I am so sorry that things are not going well for you!

I definitely agree with getting a second opinion, but I strongly recommend that the second opinion be an endometriosis specialist.

I am not sure how much you know about endometriosis but it can cause a lot of pain and symptoms, many which you describe, and it is not cured with a hysterectomy. Additionally, many general OB/GYN's do not have the skills necessary to carefully and skillfully remove all of it.

While the ablation could address the bleeding concerns, it won't affect any cyst or endometriosis issues. However, the Lupron could. Lupron is for more than stopping bleeding. It creates pseudo-menopause so that your ovaries shouldn't produce cysts and without estrogen the remaining endometriosis could subside. This could buy you some time to figure out what your next step should be.

A hysterectomy is a major, irreversible surgery with its own list of side effects to consider, besides not curing endometriosis. So you don't want to jump from the frying pan to the fryer so to speak!

I would strongly recommend letting your doctor know what is going on right now and ask if you should be feeling as you do. Keep a detailed symptom diary about all you have gone through and all you are going through. Research your diagnoses so you know your options and learn all you can about a hysterectomy. And make an appointment with a doctor who thoroughly understands endometriosis.

I know it is miserable to live in pain day in and day out, and it is very frustrating when you try the options and they fail. But, I also know that a hysterectomy isn't a cure all and not always a happily every after experience! I had a hysterectomy several years ago for endometriosis. I was one who ended up with complications and health issues for several years. Additionally, my OB/GYN was not able to remove all of the endometriosis so I also continued to have endo issues until I finally had surgery with an endo specialist a few years ago.

I wish you well and I hope you can find a medical team who can help you find a solution that will allow you to feel your best!

Re: I Can't Take It Anymore HELP

I would have an hyster for sure...leave the cervix. Make sure you LOVE your doctor and dont let anyone rush you during appts. Ask the doctor to remove the endo during the hyster.

If you think the dr is trying to get more money from you then he likely is! I have daily endo pain after a hyster lst year. My dr did NOT remove it completely and I think the same thing about the money. But the pain has decreased drastically since there is no more hormonal fluctuations. My natural HRT is so easy and bioidentical. I am asking the Lord to get you to a good doctor quickly.
