How many is too many surgeries before going ahead with a hysterectomy? 38 y/o and unsure (surgery 4/10)

I am a 38 year old mother of one. Also i am a wife.I am set to have a Hysterectomy on 4/10/14. I am so worried i know that i will not be able to have any more children and that is so hard for me to get over but i know it is the best thing. What has been braking my heart the most is that my 9yr old was crying for me because she sees me in so much pain. it is hard for me to walk, sit, stand for long, I swell all the time, I only eat once a day because it hurts when i eat i have issues in the bathroom with pain. Love making is not even talked about in my marriage and i feel bad for my husband because of that. I also have sarcoidosis and some other health issues. Thyroid issues i just got off a feeding tube i am always weak. This will be my 10th surgery but this is the biggest one that i have ever had. Being a military wife has played a big roll in most of the surgeries moving around so much different doctors all the time.I have been just hoping that one day i will be healed but i guess this is the only way right now and i am worried about how long this will last before i hurt again due to scar tissue.I am hoping that one of you ladies will have and advice for me.?????? what to expect and all and they say it is a major surgery.

Re: How many is to many

How many is too many? That is, and has been, obviously up to you.

Sounds like you have been through a lot... surgeries, stress, and anything else that goes with it. If you feel that your healthcare team is not doing you justice, perhaps a second opinion from a healthcare professional/specialist can help you come up with a different plan.

I wish you good luck and better health.

Re: How many is to many

All I can say is you will know when it is enough. I waited probably too long, looking back, but I wasn't ready emotionally so who is to say.

My surgery is a week from tomorrow and I am counting the hours. It can't come fast enough. I can't believe I let myself get this sick. There is zero doubt in my mind that I am ready. Until you get to that point maybe you aren't ready.

My husband told me the other night he thought it was good I waited because now I will have nothing but happiness to giving my uterus her walking orders !

Re: So worried about hysterectomy surgery - how long before I hurt again due to scar tissue?

what do they think is the source of your pain?
sounds like you have had a rough ride so far with all your health issues, and I hope you can get some answers.
I think the trouble with multiple surgeries, is that can produce adhesions which in themselves can be painful. I hope this surgery helps resolve your pain issues.
I would recommend writing down any questions or concerns you have before the op, and discuss them all with your surgeon.

I don't think a doctor can find out too much from the PAP. From what I understand a pap only tests for cervical cancer cells. Even testing that they have to send it off.

How many surgeries is too many?

Well, I have had 1 other surgery. And I'm ready for the hysterectomy. I have pain all the time, and my doctor is very confident this will help. I finally found a wonderful doc who is knowledgeable about my problems (endo, adeno, adhesions and so on).

I will turn 31 just 3 days after my surgery. I thought this would be something to happen way down the road, if ever. The last 2 years have been horrible for me and my family. I'm ready to move on with my life.
