Managing Effects of Lupron Before Hysterectomy

Hey All,

Just wanted to find out how those that were on Lupron managed their symptoms. Ive been on the medication of 2 weeks, and the first 14 days were fine; but it seems like a "brain fog" has kicked in and I feel a "little off". Is this something that could balance itself out or should I just be prepared to live in this state til after my hyster? If so, how did you guys manage it?

I did 3 months of lupron shots before my hyst. Lupron does cause temporary chemical menopause...that is for sure. I had hot flashes and night sweats and some brain fog too. Lupron can be a wild ride sometimes !!!

The positives were my fibroids started to shrink and my periods stopped. I just told myself that it was a temporary lifestyle change with lupron.

I stopped having lupron side effects right before my hyst. In pre-op, my Dr. told me that as soon as lupron is out of the system...the side effects start to subside and disappear. That happened with me.

I'm about to have my 4th shot. Personally I've increased my vitamin intake(multi plus extra B's) and increased my veggies & fruits. I feel like it's helped some in clearing the brain. I've had serious insomnia which I cannot stand! There are some nights when I feel so desperate for sleep I take a Benadryl. I keep a fan in my purse at all times for those wonderful hot flashes. Cutting back on caffeine helped some.

Gotta say I can no longer feel my biggest fibroid so I'm guessing it did shrink. So if that is the case it was worth it. Good luck!

How many shots will you have? I am going to receive my 2nd shot this week. After that, only one more. The symptoms have been fine so far. Not much insomnia or any hot flashes, yet. But, Im waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I'm getting my 4th and final shot this week. My Doc says a max of 6 shots are recommended.
