Sex after A&P Repairs

What are realistic expectations for resuming sex after a TVH, A&P repairs, and perineum repair? I'll be 8 weeks post op on Friday. At my six week check up, my doctor said to wait another week or two before trying. I agreed to try this weekend with me being in control of everything, but there is no way. Things didn't get very far at all.

I have to use Premarin Cream three nights a week. Just from inserting it(and it's a very thin applicator), it feels like there is no room in there for anything. Is that normal? Will it go away?

I had very similar surgery to you on June 8th. My husband and I have had sex twice since my seven week date from my first surgery. It has been painful but doeable (at least for him). We take it very very slow.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Tamara. I'm sorry it's been painful for you. I wonder if it's always that way at first or if it wouldn't be if we waited longer. I don't think I can handle any more pain.

Was wondering if you would tell my why you needed second rectocele repair & if it worked the 2nd time? I know I need a 2nd repair to to incomplete repair the 1st time. I thought I had to heal all the way first. But that's simply because I'm still in pain from being so totally overstretched & all the little skidmark type tears inside vagina & inner labia as well as one larger tear at top of perineum.

The stitches did not hold. The surgeon thinks that my body was allergic to the stitch material used at the site. The normal repair also did not hold well with my body. They went in again and did a more intensive repair cutting through the vaginal mucosa. So far the second repair is holding well.

I felt "too tight" for about 6 months. Buy an over the counter lube, use a position that has YOU in control, take it slow and only do as much as you are comfortable with. It will get better with time.

Thanks, Nervous_Nel! 6 months, wow, that seems like a long time.

Thanks ladies, I've been wondering about this myself. I had the same surgery (and on the same day as brenda) but without the TVT and have been told to use the premarin cream also. Haven't tried anything yet, DH got sick with what ultimatley turned out to be kidney cancer (still confined to his kidney, thank goodness so prognosis is good) and had major surgery about 1 month after my surgery. So guess we'll see how it goes whenever he's well enough. Thanks for your input it makes me a little less nervous.

Note - I didn't say it was painful for 6 months, just that it was six months before either I adjusted to the tightness or the tissue gradually stretched or the scar tissue became more pliable. I had Estrace cream to supposedly help promote healing. I can't remember exactly how long the "ouch" factor hung around, but we really had to be patient in dealing with the tightness.
