Re: lAVH

My doctor says he has done the LAVH with the uterus as large as a small watermelon (approx 6 month pregnancy). I guess it depends on the physicians experience, preference and your circumstances. Definitely get a second and maybe a third opinion.

Good luck!

Re: lAVH

My uterus was 16 weeks size and I had an LAVH. I was told it was big, bad and mean.. Very lumpy... I think it just depends on your doctor

Re: lAVH

Thanks for the replies.
I went for an ultrasound at a private hospital as another opinion as i have been using agnus castus and wanted to see if it was helping with the fibroids. I am feeling fabulous since using it.

The original measurements according to the ct scan was 6,5x6,5 cm and 5;5 x 5,5 cm and 4,5x 5,5 cm. i was not given a uterus measurement just told that it was like a four to five month pregnancy.

The new ultrasound offered these measurements.
5,8x3,6cm and 5,1x 3,0 x 2,1 x 2 cm.
The uterus measurement was 10 x 4,7 cm.
Do the last measurements sound too large for a LAVH???

I have asymptomatic fibroids and the only reason the doctors want to do the full hysterectomy as they think the fibroids could turn nasty.

I had a d and c 8 weeks ago to remove a stuck coil and i really was feeling great.
Now that the docs are insisting on the hysterectomy i am starting to feel depression set in.
I really do not want a surgical menopause.

Has anybody else had LAVH with my size uterus and fibroids and was it successful. The docs here want to do a vertical cut and remove ovaries and fallopians. All my scans indicate healthy looking ovaries.........
Any feedback appreciated.

Re: lAVH

I had DaVinci with a fibroid size of 36.4 x 30.0 cm. The largest performed by robot. It was a 6 hour surgery The fibroid was masserated and removed through a port. Very small incision. I was lucky to find a fantastic specialist right here in Florida. The previous doctors I saw all wanted to do e vertical incision. I said no.

I would get a second opinion because it seems your doc. may not be comfortable with new methods. Your fibroids are not too large.

Re: lAVH

If you can afford it and/or your insurance will cover it you should look into finding a doctor who specializes in less invasive surgeries. My "Bonus Mom" had a LAVH and her uterus was described as enlarged to the size of a 6 month pregnancy. Her surgery took 6 hours but her surgeon was determined not to convert to the TAH. My doctor also stated he has done many laparoscopic procedures with uterus of that size. Use the links on this site to find a doctor in your area that specializes in Da Vinci or Laparoscopic procedures. Or, contact your insurance company or check their website (most companies have them now) to find a doctor that performs less invasive surgeries in your area.

Best wishes!

I was originally scheduled for TAH by my gyn, then went to another doctor and she said she can do it LAVH, so that's the doctor I'm going with!! Of course it's not guaranteed, and could turn into an abdominal, but the first gyn wouldn't even consider it with my large uterus and fibroids. It just depends on the doctors experience.

Re: lAVH

I am also scheduled for a LAVH, with the option to open things up of it gets complicated. I have a great surgeon, with tons of experience. I also have a uterus that extends 4" above my bellybutton, so we'll see. It's worth a try right? Good luck to you!
