I'm just NOW realizing...

I am quite uneducated about what is going to be happening to me in just a few short weeks.
I am so very thankful i have found this site..but at the same time i am becoming a bit overwhelmed. Can anyone point me in some direction as where to start.I will be having a TAH.At this point i feel like i could *live* here and still not learn enough.

Thanks so much
Janine

Hi Janine

Welcome to HysterSisters! There is tons of information, advice, support, and s when you need them.

Be sure to check out the PreOp Hints and Articles (click here) PostOp Articles (click here) and Princess Stories (click here) for information and answers to help you get ready for surgery and what to expect after surgery.

Read and research as much as possible to help you, in conjunction with your DR, make the best decisions for you.

Best wishes!

I'm just NOW realizing...

Hi Janine:

I did plenty of research and also lived reading this site. I found it the best thing I could have done. I had a lot of questions, but thanks to the experience of other sisters, I knew what I was in for. I will let you know that ATTITUTE will be really important. Be informed that is really a key. I am 5 weeks post op and I feel GREAT! Yes, I get tired, but I am doing really good.

The waiting was harder for me than the procedure itself. Dreaming (yes) was a real new and overwhelming experience for me. My mind was working overtime. You will find that as you read you get a lot of information and as you create your own story, then you can glue it all together.

From my experience: I did not eat the day before~only fluids and jello (as per DR) this really helped with the gas. I used a heating pad right after surgery for comfort. I used the pillow to laugh, cough, sneeze, etc it was great help. i allowed my family to be good to me and it worked.

HUGS

I'm just NOW realizing...

Jeanine, You're the day after me! Our freedom is at hand!

seriously, this site is a God-send. Lot's of good common sense info and tips to help us get thru. The articles are great for planning how to get the house and family ready, what we need to have (Gas-X!!!) and other details. I've gooten more ocmmon sense help here than from the doctor and hospital!~

No way!!

Hi Janine.
I'm visiting the castle on the same day and same state (same hospital??? that would be freaky ).

One of the things that I have learned on this site is that every situation is different. I have a notebook and pen next to my computer at all times. My list of questions gets longer by the day while my list of stuff to bring with me gets shorter

Ask questions, lots of them. Between your (our ) sisters and your DR hopefully all questions will be anwered.

Best of health to you.

your'e not alone

Janine - I am now 9 weeks post op TAH/LSO (I kept my right ovary - my best friend at the moment) and I too visited this site on many occasions - I must say having read so much information before surgery made me more scared about going through with it but, having read so many "horror" stories and sisters going through such terrible times post op made me terrified - In the end I went through with it and have come out the other side a NEW WOMAN!!! I had the greatest surgeon, I have the smallest 4 inch bikini cut that is barely visible, the swelling around the incision has totally gone, I have no pain, I could lie on my stomach from the second week post op, my hormones are fine without HRT, I was driving after 10 days (I live in Australia in the country with a very rough unsealed 200m driveway) cautiously but made it out the driveway and into town, I was exercising after 3 weeks - I think what I am trying to say is that the more information we are armed with the better we can relate to our feelings physically and emotionally post op - Good Luck I am sure your surgery will be a success and you won't ever look back - Happy New Year to you from your sister in Australia - Sharon xx
