I had packing LAVH. I didn't even know it was in there until nurse came in next morning and removed it. It didn't hurt when she took it out either. So you shouldn't worry about feeling it or pain with it.

I had the same experience as Robyn. I didn't even know that I had packing until they took it out. And it didn't hurt when they took it out. The only thing I could compare it to would be removing a very wet tampon. It looked like a ribbon made of cotton fabric. I'm not sure why they do it -- probably to absorb what little bleeding there may be -- but it's no big deal.

I didn't feel any pain either. Just surprised that there was so much of it!

I also had an LAVH but with no packing. I only had light spotting for a couple of days. It's funny how the same surgery can be done so differently. Good luck on your surgery - you are going to do AWESOME!!

Ok wait...I just read about packing for the first time on here today (I've been gone over the holiday) and am a little freaked out. Is this only for LAVH or for TVH's too? I am not worried about the pain or anything like that, but this is the first I am reading about this and thought I was pretty well prepared. When does the information and surprises end? :eyes:

Hi Mary, Ladies,

I had TVH and like the other ladies here, knew nothing of it until the nurse removed it the next day. It was a weird sensation but definitely didn't hurt at all ..... and it went on and on and on .... and on! It was a bit like the tied scarf trick magicians do .... I did ask if a l'il white rabbit would pop out too! (I blame it on the drugs lol).

Seriously ladies, jokes apart, you can't feel it and it is painless to remove. From what I've read, some gyn's pack and others don't so it would be worth checking with yours.

I didn't have any packing with my LAVH. I had on the lovely mesh panties with a big 'ol hospital pad and the first time I got out of bed, I bled pretty much, but it slowly tapered off to where there was only minimal spotting the next day. I think it just depends on your doctor whether you will have packing or not.

Yes..not the most comfortable experience in the world, but not painful. I was much more comfortable once it was out, too.
Don't worry about it.
