Scared to death
Hi guys,
My name is BronzeCaramel, and my nerves are definitely ON EDGE...
I have been suffering for a long time now. I found out in May that I have endometriosis. I also found out that there was a tumor that needed removal. The first surgeon tried a laparscopic procedure and decided not to do much of anything because of the extent of the tumor... I guess he felt that it was outside of his scope of expertise.
I then got a second opinion at Duke University, and it was decided that I would have the following procedures done on September 27, 2010.
Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy *(I begged for an ovary to remain... They aren't sure that can be done... It depends...)
Rectosigmoid Resection w/possible ostomy
Possible hand assisted laparoscopy
Possible laparotomy
Staging of tumor if it appears malignant
Lymphectomy
Omentectomy
I am scared!!! What is going to happen? How long will I be in the hospital? How long will I be out of work? I mean, I have 4 teenagers to support as a divorced mom. I literally HAVE to work... I am petrified...
Add to that... How will I ever expect to satisfy a man sexually again, when they have literally taken out my femininity?
Sorry to dump so much with my first post... I just HAVE to let these feelings out... I want to cry, but can't because my mommy raised me to be a strong black woman...

Re: Scared to death
First thing, my story is close to yours. It happened a little faster because of cervical cancer concerns and only one surgery but had to have all the repairs and then some you are. I am 5 weeks post op yesterday. If I wouldnt have had some of my complications that are completely unique to me (I have 3 kidneys), I feel I could have resumed some form of desk work part time at 2 or 3 weeks.
I was only in the hospital for 21 hours after waking from the 3 hour surgery. I didnt have extensive endo, but some of that, had to have lymps taken, and they told me they didnt think that could save either ovary and I got to keep my left one.
I have to say, hormonally I feel like a kid again. My child is 7 and couldnt do as much to help as your teenagers can if they will. It is amazing how our kids decide to pitch in.
Also as far as sexually, I wouldnt worry about that. At 3 weeks my DH and I were allowed to play around and I was satisfied and he was too. There was no penet but, that is next week. He look and said "she looks better than ever to me". Guess thats because doc did the repairs and removed cervix. They make you a new cervix using vaginal tissue so really, by theroy, you are alittle tighter and smaller.
It is wonderful that you got a second, my original gyn wanted to wait and see and mine was spreading fast, my out come probably would have been doing everything right. Add me as a friend or find me on a chat. Let me know anytime if you just need to talk. There are also lots of sisters on here in the same boat that will chime in and hopefully hearing lots of reasurring stories will make you feel better; I know without this website I would have been lost and alone. Take care of yourself now too, it helps the healing after.
