Im back again........

Hi Everyone,
I joined in May when i found this wonderful site. I was told i needed a hysterectomy and i was scheduled for june 3rd. I had been bleeding for 5 weeks, very heavy at times. I had a 6cm cyst on my left overy. I am 49 years old and going through perimeopause since i was 45.The last year has been weird with irregular periods until i started bleeding in april and that was a night mare. Then just before my surgery i had another sonogram and my syst had gotten smaller,3cm. So my doctor said we will cancel my surgery and check it in a few months. I was not bleeding for a few weeks and then i started spotting!! That started in mid june. I have been spotting now since then. i have not gone without a pad for months!! The other day i was wearing a pantiliner. I thought i felt something wet so i went into the bathroom and i was full of blood!! Oh my god!! And i was at work!!I talked with my doctor who said i probably should go on the pill for a few months. Well, i am supposed to start today and i'm not sure what to do. I have HBP and take meds for it. I read all the side effects and am a little scared. My thinking is that maybe i should just ride this out until i reach menopause. I still have to go for another sonogram in mid august and he told me the other day that the results will tell us if i still need sugery. I came back here for help!! My two questions are: Have any of you had this experience?? and what should i do about taking the pill??I hope that i have been clear on what is happening. I love this site and when i was going through that bad period it was here that i felt better. It became my support and i was very prepared for my surgery. I hope that you girls can help me out......Thanks for listening.

Im back again........

Hi Irish,

I'm so sorry to hear about the problems you've been having. I can relate to being covered in blood at work, it's one of those things where you just sit there thinking, "What the hell do I do now?" I left work early many times last year when I was bleeding heavily, it was awful. Heavy bleeding really can put such a dent in our lives, people who haven't experienced it just cannot relate.

I'm not a big fan of birth control pills. I have a younger sister who took them for years with no problems, but I have an older sister who went on them for a few months and almost died from DVT. Your high blood pressure makes taking BC dangerous, what did your gyn say about the possible problems? Did you speak to him/her regarding your fears?

I can't tell you what to do, the final decision is going to have to be your own, but I would suggest talking to your doctor about the fears you're having.

Best of luck!

Not a Dr But Birth control pills and high blood pressure are a recipe for disastser.

I'd check again with the specialist and the Gp. A day won't make that much difference. Even if the say it's ok I'd get my blood pressure checked often.

I had the heavy bleeding and the pad a day for months routine... I thought about threatening my GYN with drawers petticoats hoops and dress, winter cape and sending him to a regular stall in a washroom and telling him to go . OOps i forgot the several hendrey yard walk to the outhouse!

They found a cyst on one ovary. My periods were so painful I did not know I had been having cysts. Love my hyst.

Irish, you sound just like me, have not been off of pads since July 11, I am 55 and I cannot take the pill anymore because it stopped working for me, it helped for a while, but no go, my uterus still wants to develop Hyperplasia. I have been to the er twice, once resulted in emergency d and c and I have just plain had it. I will be going in 5 weeks, probably will have to take my pad with me, not to mention the low back pain I have, cant take Advil because it makes you bleed more and Tylenol does not help.. just want you to know you are not alone....I have the same problem, no more pills, no ablasion, hystectomy all the way and glad of it.... (((irish211blu)))

Thanks for updating us on your situation. Your surgery date is still showing up as June 3, 2004 - you can edit your profile to remove that date because you have not had a hysterectomy.

I moved your post to The Options & Alternatives Forum because you are not currently scheduled for a hysterecgtomy and are exploring other options. If you do schedule a hysterectomy at a later date you can enter a new surgery date in your profile and go back over to the Pre-op Forum.

I hope that you can find something that works for you. Good luck.

Irish,

So sorry you're going through this, especially when you may be somewhat close to official menopause. It's impossible to know how many months or years before actual menopause comes. Therefore, you need to ask yourself a few questions.

1) Can I live like this for an undetermined period of time?

2) Am I in pain?

3) Am I anemic?

4) Am I truly a candidate for the pill? Has my doctor disclosed any and all risks of this therapy in conjunction with my HBP?

Then, schedule some time with your doc or ask to have a phone discussion. Your questions and concerns can be satisfied so you can make a well-informed decision that is right for YOU. Always ask questions when in doubt. Your health is more important than anything!

Hugs to you and good luck!!!

I agree with (((Jackie))). Discuss all your options with your doctor - it may even be a very good idea to get another doctor's opinion. It's your health and doing as much research as you can is so important.
