collection of blood in pelvis (heamatoma)

I am now 6 weeks post op from TAH. At 2 weeks ost op I had a CT scan and was told there as a collection of blood in my pelvis. Dr. said it should reabsorb in my body. A few days later I started bleeding like a period. Dr. said it is the blood coming out of the vaginal cuff. I have been bleeding for four weeks like this! The Dr. did an internal exam last week and said it the blood clot. I can not believe how much blood has come out. It concerns me but the Dr. says its fine. It seems like SO much blood to me. I am sooooo sick of all the bleeding. It makes me feel like I am not getting better. Haas anyone else had this??

Re: collection of blood in pelvis (heamatoma)

I started bleeding (enough to use pantiliners) at 2.5 weeks and it kept up to week 8 or so. I also had a hematoma (showed in ultrasound) and was told it would reabsorb into body. Altho I was cauterized twice. It sounds like your's is much heavier, so I'd wonder about anemia.

My primary dr's concern (and request for US) came up after blood test showed I was quite anemic, so when the hematoma showed - he sent me back to the gyn to be monitored. I was even checked at 10 weeks (had been on vacation week to 10 days before); also went in at 4 months to be 'checked,' altho there wasn't anything going on at that time.

Hang in there but stay in touch w/ your dr on regular basis about this. You might even ask about possibility of anemia, so you can get on iron supplements if needed.

This past Jan. I had a "cyst" or mass of some sort show up abdominally (it was at countertop height so, bumping it was how I found it). I have had that xrayed and CT, been to gyn/onc for exam and had it drained (lab work on it came back benign). Today, I was back for a follow up CT w/ contrast. "It" is back, that I know because I can feel it and it is achy in that area. Not sure if "it" is in any way connected to the hematoma after my hyster, they probably don't know.

However, WE have to be our own advocate -- WE have to keep on top of our medical care, as we only get this one body; and hopefully a long time to stay in it. Touch base with your dr next week, and the week after, and after until you feel there is no need to.

Please post again with an update.

Re: collection of blood in pelvis (heamatoma)

My hemoglobin was 7.9 when they found the blood clot. I was re-admitted to the hospital and the following day ti was 8.0. Dr said that meant the bleeding had stopped. A week later, April 21st, my hemoglobin was 9.4. Dr. has not checked it since. I am asking for a blood test when I go on Tuesday. She said if I wanted an US she would do it for me. I just worry so much about this bleeding. I really believe it is affecting my recovery. I am not doing as well as I think I should be.
