being overweight and Doctor question

Hello, My surgery ( Davinci) date is 7/20 so I gave really been posting a lot of questions.

I asked my doc today about his experience. He has done 247 Davinci hysterectomies and has only had to "convert" two of them. So I ask you all ...that's pretty good experience and conversion rate isn't it ?

Also, i am substantially overweight and carry it pretty well but I have a large abdomen from all the pregnancies and the enlarged uterus. I am told that Davinci is perfect for women like me. Any comments ? Have you heard this ?

Finally , I may have to move a few weeks after the procedure due to a possible new job for my husband. Is it going to be possible to do a longer distance move by car that soon ?

Thank you so much !!

Re: being overweight and Doctor question

I, too, am overweight and had a DaVinci on Monday. I was told that there are more risk with infection and healing, but I'm closely following doctor's order and doing fine. I also read and was told by my doc that the DaVinci is better for overweight people - easier to navigate.

I'm not so sure about moving. Most of us have limits on how much to pick up and restrictions for resting for 6-8 weeks after surgery. Are you having movers to help you move?

I am overweight also, and just had the Da Vinci last week. I am feeling great! My small incisions are itching me right now, from the healing process and my bladder feels bruised and sore, but other than that I had a great experience. I saw my doctor today (who I think is great) and he said everything was healing up wonderfully. Good luck to you.

That sounds like a great conversion rate!

There are many heavier women who have had a successful davinci surgery. So you are not alone.

As for moving, it depends on how many weeks and how long of a trip. You will need frequent stops to move around to help prevent blood clots. You will be on lifting restrictions so unless it is packing towels in a box without lifting the packed box you are going to need help packing.

You also may want a contingency plan in case you have complications so you are close to your Dr. Initial recovery takes 2/4 to 6/8 weeks with full recobery taking 6 months to a year. My Dr said davinci patients are ahead for the first 6 months but after that it is equal to abdominal recovery.

Re: being overweight and Doctor question

I am just curious, I am not having a davinci and also very overweight. The doctor didn't seem concerned or make any note of it...should I be concerned?

I am overweight and did the DaVinci too. My recovery has been great. Very grateful I chose the robot.

How many weeks is a few weeks? From my experiece with 3 weeks post op, I had 4 hour travel distance by car and upon returning home had aches and exhaustion although I did not drive. Just be careful, relax and take time to recover.
