Looks like you and me are in the same boat sis! Mine is prolapsed and I finally went to an orthopedist to explain why all the low back and leg pain, becuase my old dr actually told me it wasn't possible to hurt this much from prolapse! WRONG!!!
The ortho guy said the following...I hope this helps!
"There are ligaments, fascia and muscles that hold up the pelvic floor. These items connect directly to the spine in the lumbar region. (ie, low!)
When your spine is being pulled down on by either torn or stetched muscles,fascia and ligaments.....it causes the nerves in the lumbar region to react and spasm. This in turn causes pain. Because the nerves in the spine are connected to all over your body,ie....legs etc.,...this causes discomfort through-out.
Their are also nerves that come from that spinal region that can directly cause pelvic pain. They are called dermatomes.(these are found thruout the body) There are many charts available on the net by looking up the term dermatomes. You can see why pressure in the lumbar region woud cause so many effects. (dermatomes are simply a word for nerves and where ,if irritated in the spine, it would hurt in the rest of the body.)
It can indeed cause low back pain, leg pain and pelvic pain. Certain parts of the spine is designed to hold up certain parts of the body. In pelvic prolapse, the spine is already doing it's job and the pelvic floor goes and adds to it's job by sending a message to "hold me up", and it can't! Hence the pain."
So now I understand it, and he was such a dear, he told me...."If a dr is telling you it can't, you need a new dr!" So he recommended my current angel!
And this angel dr of mine fully agreed! There are losts of sites that show these dermatomes and if you do a search on pelvic floor muscles pictures, you will see just how many the poor old back has to hold up when they aren't working right!
