Hysterectomy Done on June 28! Went OK
I feel I was very lucky or something, bec.
my surgery went very smoothly. I did not
feel any real pain or discomfort. They must
have loaded me with morhine or something?
Waiting for the surgery was the most anxious
time. And I had a great many fears about what
to expect. When I woke up, I was comfortable
from then to the time I was discharged.
I managed to pass gas Ok, but not no bowel
movement yet.
Also, I have to change my dressing 3 times a day.
One end is open and draining. Should I worry about
this.?
So far, they have not found any malignancy, but not
all the tests are in on the ovarian cysts yet.
I feel relieved however, even with incomplete info.

welcome home princess!
Glad the surgery went so well, and hope you won't have too long a wait for your pathology results on cysts. Try not to get too constipated, you don't want to be straining on the throne this early in your recovery. If you don't have a bm soon, check with doctor which laxative to take (some are just too rough ) and perhaps use a suppository gel to soften the stool at the back end, that can act as a plug, as it dries out and gets quite hard.
The open end of your incision - is this where the drain was? If it doesn't look like pulling together soon, get it checked by nurse or doctor, it may need a closure plaster to hold edges together until healing takes over.
Remember to take things easy, walk around the house if you feel up to it, rest plenty with feet up and drink plenty of fluids. Have you got lots of helpers around? Take good care of yourself, best wishes, Linda

Welcome home Kelly,
I'm so happy for you that surgery went smoothly. Lindy-lou gave you good advice. Please do not apply any type of meds to your incision either.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for the rest of your path reports. It's over for you now...you must feel so relieved. We are the same age and it is good to hear that you went through this well.
Take care,
Maralyn

Monitoring My Own Recovery
I feel so much better now that I am home.
Yesterday, I was sort of depressed, but today
I have more energy. Yesterday I walked downstairs
by myself w/o any wobbling. My balance is better.
I am trying to drink my liquids. I washed my
hair which was driving me crazy; it's very oily.
The info about a plaster is very helful. I am
concerned about infection, but the wound looks
clean now. I'm supposed to put hydrogen peroxide
on it three times a day.
The BM hasn't happend yet.
Also, I did a lot of hiccuping in the hospital,
which I took to be a mild form of throwing up
reaction by my body. I never did throw up any
food. Just hiccupped. Wierd!
Thanks for your support.
Kelly
