Red & swollen

Hi there,
I had a TAH with bladder repair on 11/14. Everything is great, feeling good, although for the past week, I've noticed that I'm red/swollen above & below the incision. It looks as if I've had an allergic reaction to something, but there isn't any itching or oozing. The incision is clean. Has anyone had this happen to them?

Red & swollen

I had a fungal-type itchy rash develop above and below my horizontal incision about 3 weeks post-op from my TAH. This came up after the incision was well-closed, staples had been removed and most of the steri-strips had fallen off. I think it happened as I began to sit up more, and my pudgy tummy folded there. The itchy part was where the skin above and below the incision touched when I was sitting. My doc treated it with nystatin cream. After it cleared up, she suggested using a cornstarch-type baby powder to keep the skin dry. That is working for me.

Some people also have an allergic reaction to the adhesive on the steri-strips.

Red and swollen skin near the incision, even without itching or oozing, probably means a call to your doc. just to be sure. Probably should check your temp. before you call. Good luck with this. Be sure to post back after you find out more.

Red & swollen

I had the same thing happen.. Mine turned out to be a spot where the stitches hadn't dissolved yet and it was irratating my skin. My dr said that it could take up to 4 months them to dissolve.. So I'm just waiting

It probably wouldn't hurt to give your dr a call to be on the safe side. When I saw mine it was a week before my 4 week check up. I'd rather go more then I should, then not go often enough.
