Scared about upcoming TAH
It is hard I know. I kept very busy leading up to my surgery and would not allow myself to dwell on it. Get things ready around the house, shop for your hospital stay and what you need afterward. Try to remain calm as a positive outlook is helpful for your recovery. I am at week 4. I caught a cold so it is slowing me down but I feel much better. As far a sex, at first I was told no sex for 6 weeks and because my vaginal cuff is not healed, my doc wants me to wait another 6 weeks so 10 weeks total, which is ok by me. Ha! Hang in there and trust that we will feel better in the long run once we are healed.

Scared about upcoming TAH
I too still have more cleaning to get done around the house. My DH is going to be off work for eight days to be with me, starting form the day of surgery. He took a FMLA to have the time off.
If you could see my house after a few days if I were sick, oh my goodness! I am already freaked about how it's going to look while I am in the hospital. I know I should just not even think about it, but I can't help it.

Scared about upcoming TAH
I just had my TAH. It really has not been bad! The waiting was the worst part!! I am very lucky to have wonderful friends and family here helping me with my 5 year old and everything else!!
My advice is to walk as soon as you can. It really does help with the gas pain!

Scared about upcoming TAH
Hello,
I truly believe that the waiting is the hardest part. We have more time to dwell on what is going to happen! I have 18 days left until by surgery. Trying to get everything in order to make it easier for my family when I am recovering. Good luck to you.

Scared About Having A Tah
[font=Century Gothic]GOOD MORNING: I AM HAVING A TVH ON THE SAME DAY,JUNE 11TH, SO WE CAN CHAT BEFORE AND COMPARE NOTES AS WE RECUPERATE. DON'T WORRY ABOUT BEING A "LURKER", YOU WERE SCARED AND I THINK WE TEND TO PUSH THINGS BACK IN OUR MINDS SOMETIMES WE DO NOT WANT TO LOOK AT. I THINK WE BOTH WILL BE FINE AND I FOR ONE HAVE ASKED AND ASKED SO MANY QUESTIONS SO I AM INFORMED. THERE ARE TWO EXCELLENT NURSES AT MY GYNE OFFICE AND THEY HAVE THE PATIENCE OF A SAINT AND HAVE BECOME LIKE "SISTERS". I ALSO AM CONCERNED ABOUT HOW I WILL FEEL, AND ALSO ABOUT WAKING UP AND SEEING MY LONG TERM S/O BOYFRIEND OF 8 YEARS, KNOWING ITS OVER. SINCE YOU HAVE NOT HAD SURGERY BEFORE, THAT MAKES YOU MORE ANXIOUS, BUT I HAVE HAD DOUBLE TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENTS, A LONG SURGERY 6 HRS....AND I MADE IT THROUGH THAT. MUCH MORE RECUPERATION AND PHYSICAL THERAPY WHICH WE WILL NOT HAVE TO HAVE. I WAS READING IN A POST UP SITE WHERE WE CANNOT REPLY BACK AND SHE HAD SOME WONDERFUL IDEAS THAT I WISH WERE POSTED IN PRE-OP FOR PEOPLE LIKE US. HERE ARE SOME OF WHAT SHE SAID..............I LOVE THE FANNY BACK IDEA....SO TAKE CARE AND WRITE ME BACK PLEASE SO WE CAN SUPPORT EACH OTHER WITH THE OTHER WONDERFUL GIRL'S HERE....JJS (tvh/cystocele (bladder repair) June 11, 2008 (Joan) HI** I had my hyst the end of April, but have been thinking ever since about writing about what I found was most comforting.* One of the best things I did to pack was the week before surgery, I read like every post about what to bring.* I wrote down my list from that and any ideas I got through the week. The one thing I read and wished I had thought of before I had gone to hospitals* previously (that I LOVED this time) was to put all "essentials" in a belt bag (fanny pack) to attatch to the bedrails.* Brilliant!!* I had basic toiletries, Mentos and my Walkman in there.* I was able to get whatever I needed; at any hour, in the dark, etc. *Secondly, take the best ipod you have or can borrow.* I used a video one, and watched very little of my favorite movies, but it was nice, since I didn't feel at ALL like turning on the regular TV, but listened to music nearly nonstop -- especially when I would otherwise have been frustrated not to be sleeping, in pain.* Better than earplugs to drown out the hospital sounds.* I didn't use any of my "happy" music, just the mellow, "sick/sad" music, super quietly so that I'd go in n out of sleep w/o realizing it was still playing.* Make a playlist from soundtracks, classical, etc.* It really helped me through. Now -- the fun things that I bought the day before were a super-soft plush robe at Costco -- wore to walk the halls, hug myself while in bed, and wear home with a loose nightie. The other was an impulse buy when I went for a travel pillow at Wal-Mart. It was a "faux fur," Barbie-pink throw blanket. I put it on me or crunched it to hug, since it was so soft when I felt like crying. EVERY nurse commented on it. Said it should be standard in rooms for Hyst. patients. It's always nice to have something new. Made me feel like the total princess.Best of luck to y'all.*

My main concern is how I am going to feel afterwards, as far as pain, sex life, etc. I have read so many different posts with so many ranges of how you feel after surgery. I just do not know what to expect. It is six days away and I feel so nervous and anxious.

thanks for the tip
The tip about audio books is wonderful. I am going to go to the library today just to check some out. I am normally a pretty sane person. My emotional seem to have gone into overdrive. Keep in touch and let me know how you do.
Hugs and blessing to you.

Scared about upcoming TAH
Thanks again for the wonderful responses & support from all of you!
Tonight I have to go for my pre-op appointment and get my blood work done. Even though I am nervous enough about the surgery, I think doing this last appointment will make it so much more real. I have butterflies in my stomach!
I have been reading & re-reading the "tips" on what to pack for the hospital. So far I really like the idea of the MP3 player downloaded with movies! I have the entire DVD series of Sex in the City. I am going to try and download it to watch.

What to Take To Hospital
I like the idea of the movies, I never download movies or tv shows as I am just learning to use my IPOD. I do audiobooks and podcasts.
I was a bit worried about my IPOD being taken, so think I will just take my walkman with.
What day is your surgery?
