headaches?

I don't get headaches very often and I'm a real baby when it comes to them.

I've had a pounding one since yesterday evening and it just woke me up from a sound sleep. Even one of our fish is making too much noise for me.

Is this common after surgery? If so, any suggestions of how to deal with it?

- Nan

Re: headaches?

Hi (((Nan)))

Hormonal headaches are quite common post op. I used an otc progesterone cream which worked very well. Others have luck using estrogen. Hopefully these will subside soon for you!

Re: headaches?

Nan - I've had them too and posted a few times about them. Since it's so soon after your surgery, could it be caffeine-related. I had a them really bad when I was in the hospital until I was allowed some coffee. They went away for about a week after that. They are back though and it's one of the things I plan to talk to my dr. about. I'm not even getting much relief from ibuprofen.

Re: headaches?

It is very normal to have a headache from the medications they used to put you to sleep. Then add in the hormones & it can really hurt. I get migraines so I take Imitrex when it gets too bad but I do remember just having normal bad headaches for a while after the surgery. Make sure you are drinking enough water & walking a bit to keep things moving. I stopped taking the narcotics on day 3 because I found that when they wore off I always had a headache. My doctor called them rebound headaches. Hopefully you will start to feel better soon!

Re: headaches?

Thank you. I really do feel like such a baby about headaches. It's a relieve to hear they are somewhat normal. I'm a huge soda drinker, so that definately might have influenced things. I'll have to watch and see if the headaches seem to coincided with the pain pills

Re: headaches?

Are you drinking the soda again now? I was just wondering because I was told to stay away from anything with bubbles as it make gas pains a lot worse. The caffeine could have a lot to do with it. I know the pain medications can actually cause a headache but if you need them then you have to just hope it gets better.

Re: headaches?

Aren't headaches also a side effect of Estrace? I have a history of migraines too plus arthritis of the neck so it's hard to figure out what is causing these headaches - have had one daily for the last 3 days. I'm just over 3 weeks postop & exactly 3 weeks on Estrace.

Re: headaches?

I'm not on any HRT, so it's not that for me. I have used Estrace before though and didn't notice any headaches but I might've just been lucky.

Re: headaches?

I think I have heard that about Estrace, but my head is so blug right now I wouldn't trust any information that comes out of it.

Yes, I am drinking soda now. Now gas pains as of yet.

The headache is even worse today.

I think if this continues, I will call the doctor about that and the rapidly increasing bruising, just in case.

Re: headaches?

Yikes I would definitely get hold of the DR right away. Rapidly increasing bruising sounds worrisome.
