Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Jun 14, 2015

Hi all -

My surgery is Wednesday, the 19th. Full hysterectomy - endometrial hyperplasia atypia - was the diagnosis. Since I am 65 don't need those parts any more - so out with it all. Da vinci - will spend one night in the hospital. The anxiety is very bad today! I have been meditating and that helps a little. Any other suggestions for anxiety? Good luck to all.

My biggest fear is not waking up after the surgery and my blood pressure going to low. My blood pressure has been a little high and the dr may have the anesthesiologist give me something to lower it which concerns me. Don't want it too low either!

Thanks for this site. Don't know what I would have done without all of you! :-)
Working the day before surgery may help you keep your mind off the surgery... Or you may find yourself feeling a little too nervous and scattered to focus on work. I took that day off because I knew I wouldn't be able to focus or concentrate.

I understand your nervousness about your blood pressure. I know different hospitals do things differently... But each time I've had surgery, the anesthesiologist comes and interviews me in pre-op after my IV is in. Answer his questions and tell him all your concerns. Tell him about your BP (although he will likely already know about it) and that you're concerned about not waking up. Give him the opportunity to alleviate those fears. Remember the anesthesiologist is yours during surgery. He doesn't leave your side and he is monitoring your BP, your heart rate, etc. You are in good hands.

Some surgeons require a bowel prep and/or liquid diet before surgery, and some do not. Follow the instructions your doctor gave you. If you were not asked to do a bowel cleanse/prep, then do not do one.

I had a TVH and had no special diet or bowel cleanse instructions.

It's one of outer special connections. My doctor said its a 24 hour release but if I need an extra day to let her know. I'm going to take her up in it since my little guy likes me to pick him up and climbs all over me. I feel so selfish and guilty wanting to stay that extra day. Any thoughts? Thank you everyone. I never type anything on sites but I feel like we are all bonded together by this.
Please don't feel guilty as you really may benefit from the extra rest. Your little dude will be well taken care of, so try to put your mind at ease.

Since pets and little ones have a habit of jumping on our laps u expectantly...which can stars (I have dogs and a cat) have a small pillow always handy to cushion the blows.

This pillow will also be great for cushioning sneezes and coughs, as well as, passenger rides for check ups.

I go in tomorrow as well. I am extremely nervous. Nobody told me to do a bowel cleanse, so I am hoping that won't be an issue. I am so frightened and worried that my family is taking me out today so I can keep my mind off it for awhile. Good luck everyone.

I am scheduled for the same day. I won't know what time my surgery is until the day before. I am praying for early morning. My biggest fear is right now is will our sex life be good after? I should have stayed away from reading the threads where women have had problems because it has increased my anxiety.

Prayers for you and all of the sisters for this week!

Hi, First time to post but have been lurking for a month or so. My TVH surgery is on Wednesday to fix my prolapses. I will be staying in the hospital until I can pee and do a loop around the halls. My prep is an enema the night before. Not looking forward to it but that's the way it goes.
Nervous but happy to get it over with.

I"m not having to do a bowel prep either. Just clear liquids and nothing after midnight.

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Jun 14, 2015

Hi all! I am scheduled for TAH Tuesday. I have ran the gamut from fear to excitement at having relief from symptoms. Have 3 kids, 20 years apart, so my family is complete. Although I know it's vain, I do worry about weight gain. Am very concerned about the pain afterwards and recovery period. Had knee surgery many years ago and discovered that morphine and I are not buddies. Does anybody know of another type of pain management immediately after surgery? I go for pre-op tomorrow and plan to ask.
