UTI? Painful Urination

Hello-
Been doing fine since TAH/BSO/Appy 5/29.
But, now am having to urinate alot (but also drinking alot of water)
It hurts/stings/spasm? when I'm about done urinating, seems that I can't empty my bladder or something...almost to the point of wanting to "hold it" & not go because it is painful. Also I was doing wonderful up until day 5...now just really feeling yuck, no fever, just no energy...which is when this all the urine problem started.
I plan to call the doc tomorrow-but any suggestions until then?
Drink, Drink, Drink-anything else?
Thanks! Sarah

UTI? Painful Urination

Calling the dr is a good idea just to make sure this is normal. I had that problem all along and it is slowly getting better. I hope yours does also

UTI? Painful Urination

Hi Sarah

Calling the doc is the best thing you can do! While you are waiting for Monday, I have a suggestion. Keep drinking the water, but add some cranberry juice. You can mix it with Sprite so it tastes a little better. The cranberry juice is something my doc a few years ago said to use to help!!!

Hope this will help you!

Sending you a big

Patty

UTI? Painful Urination

I had those symptoms nearly 3 months after my surgery. Turns out I did have a UTI and then I had bladder spasms. I was constantly running to the bathroom, all for naught. Definitely call the doctor tomorrow. If for nothing else but reassurance.

Avoid sugar if you can

I used to have lots of UTIs ... one time when I went in for the antibiotics, the doc measured the pH of my urine and found that I was way off. He said that was because of the amount of sugar and carbs in my diet (I was about 40 pounds overweight at the time) and the lack of acid.

I now avoid UTIs by making my system more acidic. Every couple of days, I'll stir 2 tablespoons or so of apple cider vinegar into a glass of COLD water, and slam it down. Though cranberry juice is quite acidic, it's also sweetened like mad with tons of sugar, which just negates the effects of the acid. Sprite has acid in it too, but also a lot of sugar. Sugar pushes your system off into the basic realm (rather than acidic, which is "normal").

I'll grant you that the apple cider vinegar drink is not the most pleasant in the world, but it does the job of acidifying your system. You can also do it with lemon or lime juice in water, but the fruit juices have a lot of sugar in them naturally (hard to believe with something as sour as lemon juice, but it's true).

UTIs are more likely to happen when your pH is higher than it should be. I was able to "flush out" a couple of incipient UTIs by downing the apple cider vinegar in 8-10 oz. of water drink 3 or 4 times a day for 2 or 3 days. You can at least make yourself more comfortable by acidifying your system.
