How many days in the hospital with TVH???

I am scheduled for a TVH next month, and I was just wondering how long I should plan to be in the hospital. The doctor had a "we'll see" answer. To all who have had a TVH, please post and let me know what your experience was as to how many days. Thanks so much, this site has been a God send...

My dr said just overnight.

I had my TVH, Cystocele, Rectocele and Bladder Sling on June 15. I was in the hospital for three nights, mostly because I couldn't pee. You will do great with your surgery. I dreaded it way more than I needed to.

I only spent one night in the hospital when I had my TVH.

I was told that my hospital sent most TVH patients home the same day unless they truly had a need to stay the night. A nurse typically visits the patient at home the following day to check vitals and drainage, etc. I was horrified at the thought and was glad that my surgery was scheduled for Friday (since the nurses don't do Saturday visits, I got to stay overnight for observation).

As it turned out, I really was ready to go home the next morning. My surgery was at 7:30 am, and I was in my room by 11:30. Despite being sick to my stomach from a bad morphine reaction, by Saturday morning I ate a nice hospital breakfast and took a shower. I was home by 10 am.

When you do your pre-registration paperwork with the hospital, you should be able to ask for more information about your hospital's usual practice.

I had my TVH/BSO in March of this year, and I only stayed in the hospital overnight because I was doing well and my pain was under control. I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you on the post-op boards!

I'm having TVH on Monday, but also A&P repairs. They say overnight, but at my preop I was told that staying a second night wouldn't be that unusual, however, I'm having some extra stuff over and above the TVH, so that could be why. You really just never know. Some people seem ready to go in 24 hours, probably most if it's just a TVH, and then others stay several days. My sister ran a fever with hers, so was in about 4 days. They'll make sure you're up and about, eating, not nauseous, going pee, and without a fever before they discharge you.
