Blood Thinners injected after Hysterectomy--anyone else?

I was injected post operatively in the upper arm with a blood thinner right after my hysterectomy and then at the top of both legs….8 hours a piece. Did this happen to anyone else?

Re: Blood Thinners

Guess I should also mention I went in for emergency kidney surgery the day before my hysterectomy and had a stent put in my right kidney. They had to laser out an impacted kidney stone that was 6cm in my ureter. Came on suddenly and I became gravely ill. Surgeons decided to go on with scheduled total hysterectomy to ease the inflammation from the impacted uterus that was embedded to my abdominal wall. I was pretty much a mess and did not really know it until they started fussing about. Now I feel like a train hit me!

Re: Blood Thinners injected after Hysterectomy--anyone else?

I was given blood thinners home with me to inject into my stomach for 7 days after my hysterectomy .. Doc never said why and I assumed this was normal to stop blood clots. I get my husband to inject me as I couldn't face doing it myself

Re: Blood Thinners injected after Hysterectomy--anyone else?

I also had blood thinner injections 2-3 times a day until I left the hospital. My Dr told me it was to prevent blood clots until I was up and moving about in my own.

I had them too, I had been on the pill prior to the surgery and was told it was to help prevent blood clots. I also got to wear really sexy (not) pressure stockings til I was up and walking around.

Happy to hear that it was quite normal to receive the injections! What a great website and I love the quick responses from everyone. Bed recovery is so isolating but not too bad with websites like these!

Re: Blood Thinners injected after Hysterectomy--anyone else?

My doctor forgot to order it, thank goodness. I had a post op bleed that had to be repaired. But it is to prevent blood clots.
