Want to read recovery journals

Hi everyone -

I'll only have one week of help at home after my surgery - after that, fending for myself with friends available to runn errands. My greatest information need is to understand what I'll be able to do week by week. When can you start bending over a little? How far can you walk at week 3 - stuff like that. I've only found one "journal" on this site so far (from Lisa Ezzell - thank you!) I find that extremely helpful. Are there more like that that I have missed?

I'll be having an abdominal hysterectomy on September 20th - planning a horizontal incision. Too big for a vaginal - my uterus is sized at 18-20 weeks.

Thanks for any other recovery "journals" anyone can point me to.

Want to read recovery journals

Hi Ellie,

I've been keeping a diary about my recovery.<admin. snip- no linking or solicitation per site guidelines, you may start journal here under Journals at top of page> I don't always break it down into what I can do when, but I was planning on posting photos of my incision as it heals and such, so if you're having an abdominal surgery, that might be of comfort.

I was surprised at how much I've been able to do at one week. My DSO is still waiting on me hand and foot. But I've been able to pop stuff in the microwave, pour myself some juice and actually helped sort the laundry for him to wash and then put it away.

Want to read recovery journals

Hi,

You can read what others say if you go to the top of the page and click on Journals. Also if you go to the Princesses Tell Hyst-Stories forum, some talk about their post op. Please feel free and visit Post-Op forum and read how those ladies are doing.

Here is a link on Post- Op Articles with more good info.https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/hsl...s=&forumid=171

Best wishes on your surgery and recovery.

Want to read recovery journals

Hello!

First I want to wish you an uneventful surgery and speedy recovery!

Secondly, everyone heals at different levels. But I myself just had TAH with horizontal incion (bikini cut) and I am 2 weeks post-op tomorrow. My DH was with me from day of surgery until this past Saturaday when he returned to work. I have been fine. I am back to cooking, walking pretty good (though not long walks or WalMart just yet), taking showers (although dr.'s have their own rules regarding this, you'd need to check about your specific case), I have put clothes into the washer, but asked DH to transfer those to dryer and out of the dyer. I have folded laundry. I have basically done lots of things that don't require alot of heavy lifting. No bed-making yet. Drove for first time yesterday (was suppose to wait 2 weeks, but I had to go get my daughter from her dad's). I feel very fortunate for my recovery to be going so well... here's to wishing you the same, speedy recovery!

Hi Ellie, You will be given a sheet of guide lines as to do's and don'ts. Listen to your body. It will tell you when something you are doing hurts. Talk to your nurses and the doctor so that you are clear as to what is ok.

The more you move, the better you can move as the days progress. Again, only within your doctors guide lines. Resting is a must and some days are better then others. Today is a good day for me, yesterday was not.

Some have very little pain and others have pain that dictates what they can do. So, it's best to plan around making life as easy for you as possible during those first weeks of recovery.

All the best for a good recovery.
