Cervix & Endo
Is it possible that you can get endo on your cervix? I'm having surgery on 2/3 SAH/BSO and the plan for now is keeping my cervix. My gyn told me since all my pap smears have been clear and that it would help me with pelvic support, sex drive he doesn't see a need to take it. Now I'm having second thoughts about keeping my cervix if indeed endo can appear here!

Cervix & Endo
Hi!
I don't have a magic answer for you but I am sending you a big ! To keep or have your cervix removed is a personal decision. I would talk to my doctor to get his thoughts on it regarding endo.
Best wishes and I hope everything goes well for you! s
Deb

cervix and endo
Hi NYWoman
All I can do is tell you of my experience with endo and my cervix. It's a bit of a long story so I will try to give you the shortened version.
I had my hysterectomy in 2002. I was supposed to have my cervix removed at that time but it was stuck there and my doctor thought it best at that time to just leave it behind as it looked healthy and I was undecided on the cervix issue. I was OK with that decision until I continued to have monthly bleeding. It started out as mild spotting but then grew into actual periods again. I started experiencing pain once again on my left ovary. One year later I had another surgery to remove my left ovary and was once again supposed to have the cervix removed. When my doctor tried to get the cervix out he found that there was endo in the vagina behind the cervix. He thought that was the source of my bleeding so he lasered the endo and left the cervix in again because it was adhered to the bowel and he did not want to risk me needing a colostomy.
Once again I thought my problems were over until my next monthly cycle came and I was still bleeding. Well its been 1.5 years since that surgery and I am facing another surgery. My endo has continued to grow and is now invaded through into my bowel. There is also a 3 cm endo mass at the cul-de-sac. My endo has also invaded into my vagina. I am having major endo excision surgery at the end of Feb. by a gyne-oncologist to remove my endo, my remaining ovary, cervix, plus I will be having a bowel resection of my sigmoid colon and a possible vaginal resection.
Hind-sight is 20/20 and if I had to do it all over again, I would have insisted that my cervix be removed with the first surgery. I might have been able to avoid all this extra surgery all together if I had it taken out. That endo that went unnoticed during the first two surgeries may have been revealed and it may not have been able to progress to such an invasive stage.
I not saying that if I had my cervix out initially I wouldn't be having these problems now, but I guess I will never know.
Anyways, so much for making a long story short (LOL), but thats been my experience with endo and cervical issues.
Hope this helps.
Karen

Thank you for the information and advice. This will definitely be a topic of discussion with my doctor at my pre-op appointment. This site has been a godsend. Thanks hystersisters!

Cervix & Endo
HI NYWoman
In addition to the information that (Karen-Gerber) shared with you, I wanted to share an article about the places that endometriosis can be found. It does state that endo can be found on the cervix.
http://www.ivf.com/endoassn.html
I had my surgery for endo and my doctor felt that a TAH/BSO was the best possible choice.
Here are some other interesting articles to read on Endometriosis
It is so nice that you are doing your research ahead of time Maybe you can print off some articles to share with your doctor.
Good luck and best wishes.
