Re: 6 weeks post DiVinci and I'm running again
I'm day #4 post-op and when released from the hospital my doc told me I could possibly be back to running in as soon as 2 weeks -- though the pain and discomfort is far less than I expected (due to the minimally invasive nature) I find that still "too good to be true".
I had just resumed running in the last 2 weeks pre-op, as I was trying to manage the anxiety and stress brought upon by sudden need for this surgery. I was already running 4 miles, 5 days/week and it felt so good. I want to get back to that really bad ... and as soon as (safely) possible ...

Re: 6 weeks post DiVinci and I'm running again
There is no way you should be running at 2 weeks. You had major surgery regardless of how it was performed. Wait until at least 6 weeks until your internal stitches have healed. Why take the chance? You only get one chance to heal correctly.

Re: 6 weeks post DiVinci and I'm running again
Sky0, I do agree with Abs50, 2 weeks is far too soon.
Listen, nobody wanted to get back to running worse than I did. I had just finished a full marathon 2 weeks before surgery and had lots of racing/running plans for 2012. But I knew I didn't want to take any chances.
I know someone who is also a runner and had surgery around the same time I did. She started back too soon and now 6 months later is still having issues.
I on the other hand waited 6 weeks before doing full runs again and yesterday just finished my 9th race since surgery. Included in that are 3 half marathons and my 5th full is coming up in 5 weeks and I am in better shape and running better than I ever have before.
Really and truly a few weeks is not going to make a big difference in your fitness but a few weeks too soon can really set you back a lot.
Take care!

Thank you RunnerQueen ... I'll probably take that advice and do long walks for a while (instead of runs).

Re: 6 weeks post DiVinci and I'm running again
That's what I did. I started 9 days post op with short walks and by 2 weeks was up to 10k walks without a problem. I did that 3-4 times/week until the 6th week then I added in short running sections to see how it felt.
By 8 weeks I was back to all running. Much shorter distances and much slower but it didn't take long to get back to normal and I did a 1/2 marathon 13 weeks after surgery and ran my 2nd best half ever (2:01).

I'm not nearly in as good of a shape, but that's inspiring.
Thank You!!!!!!
