Smooth-Muscle Tumor of Uncertain Malignancy Potential & LAVH

I had a myomectomy and cystectomy on 6/30/03 and a STUMP (smooth-muscle tumor of uncertain malignancy potential) was found. My sister-in-law (renowned oncologist in Mass) said immediate hysterectomy and both ovaries out. I, of couse, didn't because the surgery was not pleasant. My oncologist (male) said I could wait a bit which I've done. Had to have a D&C recently and now scheduled for hysterectomy on 5/20/04. Want to know, has anyone else had a STUMP which I understand is quite rare and did you have both ovaries out? Are hormones always necessary for surgical menopause? PS: this website took out much of my fear that had prevented me from getting the surgery until now. Reading the posts has calmed me as much as one can be calmed about major surgery. Thank you.

Welcome to HysterSisters! There is tons of information, advice, support, and s when you need them.

There is an awesome resource link directory you can get to by clicking here or click Resources at the top of each page. You can find almost anything relating to hysterectomies, surgery, hormones, diagnoses, books, the list goes on and on. Check it out!

You may want to check out the Cancer Concerns forum - you may find someone there who has had they same type of diagnosis as you.

Read and research as much as possible to help you, in conjunction with your DR, make the best decisions for you.

Best wishes!

ps: please update your profile and add your surgery date so you will be on the calendar and we can be sure to send you special good wishes as your date approaches. It also makes it easier to reply to posts by being able to see if you’re pre or post op, and by how much. Thanks!
