Laparascopic Hyster same as Vaginal?

Just a bit confused as I believe my GYn wants to do lap procedure - but is this the same as the hysters I read about being vaginal?

I know there is someone out there who can tell me - and anything else they know about the procedure

when at the site,just click on the sunflower that is the type hyst you are having , ie.total ( cervix and uterus) or sub (uterus only)

I had a Laprascopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy. To the best of my knowledge, they can do a vaginal without the laprascope, but I think all laprascopic procedures remove the uterus through the vagina. Mine went really well, my recovery has been easy. All that was visible from the outside were two tiny incisions, one through my navel and one slightly lower down. At almost 5 weeks post op, the scars aren't even visible. The one in my navel is a tiny white line, the other a white pencil dot. Good luck! If you want to PM me, I'll be happy to give more details.

Yesterday, I read several articles about LAVH and what I got from them is that before doing the LAVH these surgeries would be abdominal and would not be done vaginally. But when they added the laparascope to assist vaginal hyster, more surgeries could be done vaginally instead of the abdominal incision. I guess with the laparascope they can get a good view and assist with the surgery. This is what I got from the articles but I suggest you read them too, I'm not a medical professional....so don't take my word for it.

I was curious as to what a LAVH was too and it was interesting reading.

There's also a procedure referred to as LSH, which is a Laporascopic Supracervical Hysterectomy, and this is sometimes confused with the LAVH, or Laparascopic Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy.

With the LSH, there are only a few tiny incisions and the recovery time is much shorter than with the traditional vaginal hyst.
