Re: Please help, feeling bloated, second day post hysterectomy :)

I didn't have shortness of breath, but it did take me days to be able to eat a reasonable meal. Could only do small portions otherwise I would feel quite full, a bit uncomfortable and am still a bit burpy (I'm 9 days post surgery).

Hang in there...it will get better!

Re: Please help, feeling bloated, second day post hysterectomy :)

MaryJel,
You're doing fabulous so far!! I'm 13 days post op from same procedure. Being only a couple of days post op, you may still have some gas from the surgery they pump into your abdomen trapped under your diaphragm. That should start getting better. It may still cause some really uncomfortable pain in your shoulders, but all the walking around helps with that as well, so you're already on top of it!! The shortness of breath will get better each day too. As you start to sit up a bit straighter, you'll start breathing deeper. Also, if they gave you a breathing exerciser after surgery to take deep controlled breaths... Use it!! It'll help get your lungs inflating properly, helps get the anesthesia out, and wakes up your diaphragm.
Hang in there hon! Each day gets a bit easier, and brings you one day closer to being all better!! You're doing great!😇

Re: Please help, feeling bloated, second day post hysterectomy :)

I suffered with the bloating and gas for at least a week after surgery. It felt like the gas was stuck between the bottom of my rib cage and my lung. This may sound crazy but after I drove 28 miles in my car that has a vibration issue, the gas pains went away. I think the vibration must have dispersed the air.

Re: Please help, feeling bloated, second day post hysterectomy :)

Thank you once again TVQ, today I feel much better. Breathing exercises tips from the hospital pt we're helpful. Same feeling too about food, can't eat normal amount but I noticed is that I've been drinking lots of fluids. Take good care sweetie, I know we will overcome this challenge:-)

Thank you AngelLissa70, you know I'm so glad to find this forum and received encouraging words from members like you. My procedure wasn't part of our plans, I got like less than two weeks to prepare. Though I have heavy bleeding going on for years, it's only this time we decided to do something coz it's also affecting my back & pelvis (cramping, aches, you name it). It's my fourth day post op and yes you're right it's getting better each day. I have faith I will be in complete health and healing in weeks time. Been able to move bowels today, oh what a relief! Thanks for your advice and you too take good care :-)

Thank you Vickitn41, it's been a but better today. I can say there's a difference from post op day 1 to this day, it's such a relief. Not much though but better than not improving. I'm not allowed to drive at least till 4 weeks time. You're experience is quite interesting. Yeah probably the air was dispersed from the vibrations. Take care honey, and will keep you all posted I my progress :-)

Tasteless, mixes in with anything, and it's a powder, so you can tail off of it gradually. I was taking it every day for at least two weeks after surgery, then tailed off in my third week slowly.

I recall it being like the following:

1) First two days after surgery -- gurgling, but nothing else.
2) First two days after being discharged -- serious gas pain, no pooping.
3) First week after that -- gas pain, uncomfortable pooping. Cramp on lower left side was the signal to get to the toilet and have a gentle push.
4) The week after THAT -- still a little slow, but better since I'd stopped the pain meds. (They slow down your intestines.) No more gas pain.
5) The week after that -- still slow, but much more comfortable. Tailed gradually off the Miralax.

Right now, you're still in Phase 1. You'll probably be bloated and quite uncomfortable for another week or so. Keep moving as much as you can, eat high-fiber food, drink enough water to float the Lusitania, and take your stool softeners. It DOES get better, but in the meantime, it can be painful, especially the gas. The time will pass, along with other things. :-)
Well put! That is exactly how it goes!! I guess most of us are the same in that category.

Re: Please help, feeling bloated, second day post hysterectomy :)

You are most welcome! Good to hear you are having some changes. I had a breakthrough today - was able to have a very large breakfast and walked for about an hour today - feeling really good ! YAY.

Time really does make all the difference

Hang in there...you'll be on this side of it soon xo

Re: Please help, feeling bloated, second day post hysterectomy :)

I definitely felt like I couldn't get a nice rib-stretching deep breath, yes. You're still in the early stages of recuperation. Things will get better as time passes, and the best thing about that is that you don't have to do ANYTHING for the time to pass. It'll happen on its own. :-)

ETA: I also had trouble getting enough to eat. I'm the sort of person who doesn't care to eat when I'm under the weather, and I dropped an unpleasant amount of weight as a result before my appetite came back and I felt like I wasn't forcing myself to eat. I lost my appetite for sweets pretty much completely; my body had NO interest in sweet things. Because of this, I dropped 17lbs and looked like a French fashion model. :-( It came back though, and I'm now exactly where I was before, minus the weight of the fibroid almost to the ounce.
