safe to drive yourself to 2 week post op hysterectomy appointment?
Hi. I am having a dilemma. My two week post op is on Friday and I do not have a ride. My husband has already missed so much work. I am feeling really good and off pain meds. I had a LAVH, cervix and ovary removed. Would it be safe to drive myself?

I had this same problem. My DH is on disability and not allowed to drive on his pain meds. Call your Doc and ask them but I did just fine. I was tired when I was done but I did it. (18 miles each way all interstate).
I did make sure that I did not take any pain meds for at least a day before and did a few test trips around the neighborhood to see how I felt. Some take a pillow and put between you and the seat belt.
I'm 22 days out and driving is still fine. I
Hope everything goes well...

I drove at 2 weeks and I didn't have a good experience doing so. Everyone is different, but I was in alot of pain afterwards and actually ended up extending my recovery period per doc. So just be careful.

Re: safe to drive yourself to 2 week post op hysterectomy appointment?
Hi there.. I am one week post op LAVH. I could only take one week of work off and ended up driving myself to work today. Against EVERYONES advice of who I know that has had a hysterectomy.. It wasn't too bad. I think it was easier because you can control your speed and bumps vs if someone else was driving.
My doctor said I could drive as long as I'm not on pain meds and he released me to work today. I no longer need the meds so I guess I am lucky.
I have a boring desk job but sitting on the hard chair is what's bothering me.
I plan to buy a donut cushion today to help with the pressure.
I would say just listen to your body if you have pain or discomfort take it easy.

Re: safe to drive yourself to 2 week post op hysterectomy appointment?
I have been driving since day 5 post op. I was still taking pain meds but only at night before bed. I was driving only in the afternoon to pick up kids from school.
I am almost 4 weeks post op and will be driving to my doc this Friday. It's 270 miles round trip. What fun that will be lol.
Good luck!

I did not drive until after week 5 with a TAH.
The biggest thing is to be sure you can put the breaks on hard, and that the pain would not get in the way, or you could be liable in an accident.

Re: safe to drive yourself to 2 week post op hysterectomy appointment?
Yesterday was my TVH 2 week checkup as well as my first time back driving.. I was worried that I would not be able to drive to my appointment. I have been off the pain meds for a week. I was still having occasional dizziness, especially when someone else was driving. I did take a test run for a few blocks. Once I got my bearings I did fine. My doctor is 40 minutes from my home. I had one of those crescent shaped neck cushions available to sit on if I needed it. I figured it would take pressure off my vagina and provide cushion in case of potholes. My drive was fine and pain free.
