Ok- I am afraid to ask....as I said in a previous post, my unterus, determined to have a couple of huge fibroids thru an ultrasound a year ago, grew from 14 cm to 22 cm in one year. Thus the TAH needed Sept 20.
My doc said that they need to rule out cancer, as cancerous fibroids tend to be fast growing. After I regained consciousness, she said that she still felt I have a bterrer than 90% chance that its NOT cancer, and if she had any major concerns about it, she would have me on the operating table within days. This helped calm me down a little.
But---call me a freak---I just can't seem to shake that tiny fear inside of me.
Even though I am trying to convince myself that its not, what if it is? Is there a good chance for cure? Uterine cancer isn't as risky as ovarian cancer, right? I mean- is there a good survival rate of one DOES have endo. cancer?
I am a tiny bit scared of this.
Any encouraging words would be appreciated.
Thanks

I too had the huge fibroids that flared up in a year and 1/2 and made me completely miserable, everyone I have spoken to says they are not cancerous, but they check it anyway. Like the morning of my surgery the nurse gave me a pregnancy test, well I just laughed because I thought she was kidding, but she was required too since up till that point I could still have gotten pregnant. So don't stress yourself, a lot of what dr's due is routine.

Hi NewWoman44,
I too had fibroids. My Dr. also told me that a characteristic of cancerous fibroids is that they are fast growing. And...he told me that uterine fibroids are cancerous only 1% of the time. I have seen several fibroid ladies post a similar statistic from their Drs. So try not to worry!!!
Sending best wishes~
Mary

It probably isn't cancer, but if it someone is diagnosed with it, there are treatments.
Endometrial cancer is usually diagnosed at an early stage.
The 1-year survival rate is about 94%.
The 5-year survival rate for endometrial cancer that has not spread is 96%.
So, don't worry!
Go have yourself a beer and sing a silly song!

I've also heard it said that if you HAVE to have cancer, uterine or cervical are most survivable, because they exist in a certain area...that is, unlike lymph cancers that go right through your system, the uterine/cervical ones have no place to go!
Certainly, if they were left LONG enough, they might get nasty.
However, fibroids are usually benign. Mine was!

I don't know if this will make you feel better, but I am LIVING with advanced breast cancer that has spread to my lymphatic system and bones, but the point is, I'm still here! I'm feeling pretty well actually, so just know that if you do get a diagnosis that you don't want to hear, it's still treatable and survivable. After all, this is my 2nd cancer
Hang in there!
