Hello 12/9ers! I hope everyone is relaxing as much as possible and not freaking out too much (easier said than done!) Who else here is having an abdominal? Sometimes I feel like the only one

AbbyNormal9, you are right relaxing is easier said than done. I'm sure you will find there will be more having abdominal surgery it is a common procedure that many others have had so please don't feel alone. I had my surgery on Dec. 4, 2014 laparoscopically and by the holiday season was feeling well enough to enjoy the festivities as long as I took things easy. I wish you all the best, you are going to do great!

Yay incision buddy! I'm losing everything but my ovaries, including a grapefruit sized fibroid cluster. This is my first surgery and first hospital stay so I'm pretty nervous as well. I'll have brief moments where I forget and then it hits me all over again. Can it be Friday evening already? The anticipation is brutal!

Re: Best Wishes to our December 09 Princesses

Hi girls! I had my TAH 2 months ago. For me too - very first major surgery! Mine was on a Monday afternoon and I can completely understand feeling anxious as I had scheduled my surgery 2 months in advance. I kept myself busy before checking into the hospital (gym etc.). I was actually RELIEVED when my sister and I arrived to the hospital and I was in pre op - because I knew I was beginning my healing journey.

I was carrying around a 4.6lb/18cm fibroid for over 4 years. FYI - - the incision is NOT as bad as you would think it would be (especially after Googling photos) and not too, too painful.

As you will see from this site - lots of tips on what to do to prep - pack your hospital bag with your favorite things - lean on your peeps during your recovery and especially with a TAH plan to take the time to HEAL (books - movies - music ...). For gas pains (from the surgery) - heated blankets on your shoulders are very helpful - I also had a lavender neck pillow - - Gas X and WALKING! Lots of water and peppermint tea. Every day - you will see how you progress. After 2 months - back at work and there can be a few hours where I actually forget I had a hyster!

Stay positive and connected with the Hyster sisters. And ask your Dr/Surgeon any and all questions!

Before you know it - you will be in that recovery room!

Best Wishes to our December 09 Princesses

Hey sisters, I'm also having a TAH, I'm more anxious about the recovery than the actual surgery. I had a major freak out last night over undies of all things! I'm normally pretty organised and a bit of a control freak, I've just about lost my mind today stressing about the little things I can't control during my recovery. I guess I'm just going to have to learn to live with it!

I'm in the middle of a bowel preparation is anyone else having this? Note to self don't cough or fart!

Good luck tomorrow ladies and try to get some sleep- I know I won't!
