Dermoid cysts

I now have pictures of these "things". They look like white mounds of fat with irregular dark sports on them (hair). My doctore did not open them further to check for teeth, she said she was grosses out at the site of them. My ovaries were embedded inside both of them. When My doctor was describing all this too me, I said "ewwww" and hid my face under the covers. I have a bad reaction everytime I lopok at the pix.

Hi Systic-sis, How did your surgery go? Was it laproscopically? Were you able to keep your ovaries?

I am sorry that you are so freaked by the dermoids. They are pretty gross, I will agree, but don't think any less of yourself! Your body is not mutinying against you. I joke that I have given birth to 2 kids and 7 cysts. My body likes to grow extra things I guess (also benign breast lumps). I try to stay annoyingly positive and just tell people that my body and I are overachievers!

I am sorry that your Dr. was not too suportive and called them gross herself. Just when you are looking for some justification. Unless you are a fellow overachiever, your odds of getting another are not too high. If you want to PM me and ask me any other specific questions, feel free.

Yuck!!!

I had a TAH with vertical incision and BSO. Everything is gone. I can't stop looking at the pictures...The nurses in the hospital told me to stop looking at them cause they could see it was bothering me so much. The doctor was being honest, she has removed them before from other women and she told me they look gross--no other way to describe them. I showed them to my son today and he said the same thing "ewwwwww". My mother told me on the phone to be glad they were not cancererous.

More on my dermoids

The doctor told me that when they opened me up and these huge things popped out, 2 bystanders (medical students, I assume) had to turn away, cause they couldn't bear the site of them. She only told me this upon me relentlessly questioning her about what the moment was like when these things were visible. I brought the pictures with me to my first post op visit. She describes them as "gook with hair on them". Ewwwww still makes my skin crawl.

Dermoid cysts

I had one the size of a fist removed from my left ovary, along with the ovary. When he got in there, the Dr. found another starting to grow on the right ovary, so he took everything out. I researched them on the Net and was fascinated and grossed out at the same time. I referred to it as my "evil twin"....always knew I had one.

I go in for my six week check Oct. 27 and am wondering what sort of strange things path found in them. Really strange. It is nice to know that I'm not the only one who has experienced this.

Since it was a germ cell tumor, I had to have everything done the "old fashioned way." Was back to work in two weeks, but wish I had waited a bit longer. Still a lot of pulling inside and some pain. Driving me nuts. At least I can sleep in my own bed now instead of DH's recliner.
