How long are baths outlawed?
I don't know if anyone else is like me, but I much prefer a bath to a shower. In fact, the only time I take a shower instead of a bath is when I'm having my period. The thought of a long recovery period without bubbles is bugging me. Anyone know how long after surgery it is until I can indulge in a long, luxurious soak in a nice hot bath?

My gyn told me until AT LEAST 4 week post op appointment. I love taking baths. I usually shower in the am and then take one or two baths on into the day. LONG HOT BATHS!! So I go on the 8th of September and hopefully then I can bathe. Hope yours comes soon.

This is another area where docs differ. I don't know how long I would have had to wait, because I told my doc I'm a "shower person" so it didn't really come up.
But I have heard of ladies who could take a tub bath almost right away -- just without bubble bath. Best wishes to you. No matter what, you'll be soaking in the tub again pretty soon.

My doc made me wait 8 full weeks. He did not want anything in there, including bath water, I didnt want an infection, so I listened, and I didnt bath until I was given the okay. However, when I did get the okay, it was glorious. the best HOT BATH EVER!!!!!
hope you dont have too wait much longer

I love baths too. There is nothing like a hot bath at the end of a stressful day. That is definitely how I relax and let go of all the day to day stress. No kids, no husband, no phone, no noise except maybe the jets, AHHHHHHHHHH, just me and my book. I don't know how I am going to cope without my bath every night. I have even gotten to where I take one at night and one in the morning before everyone wakes up.

At just over two and half weeks after my TAH I was hospitalised again with heaps of pain and they found an 8.5 cm haemotoma, and was given intravenous antibiotics etc. On the second day the nurse ran me a lovely salt bath (HEAVEN!!!) and when I came home I continued these. Used a large cup of salt per big bath.

My doc told me baths without oil or bubble bath were okay as soon as I felt well enough to get in the tub. The nurses at the hospital said "No Baths" when I was getting ready to go home.
At my 6 week check up, the doc said that I would have noticed less odour while my stitches were dissolving if I had taken baths--he said "I'll bet those nurses told you not to..." LOL
Obviously, he is in the minority on this one, but I wish I would have followed his instructions!

Hi, I had a tah/bso and am also a "bath" gal. My dr ok'd baths or showers the day I was released from the hospital. I did find that a shower was easier for the first few days. I had my DH put a shower chair in the tub for me and sat and showered. It was very nice and not as hard to do with a sore tummy
I think that since each dr has different perferences that you should ask yours. Chances are that he/she will tell you anyway but asking can't hurt
Best wishes.
