Silly Questions
I have a couple of silly questions.
1. If I am having my period can my surgery be done at the same time or can they not do it while I am "shedding"?
2. A lady I work with said I can still have periods if I keep my ovaries...is this true? I am having the uterus and the cervix removed and if the ovaries are healthy, they will stay, if not, they go. I thought if I did not have the uterus or the cervix, the periods would end but now I am questioning what I thought to be true.
Okay...sorry if these are silly questions...I am just getting to the point of being ready to have this done and get me out of the misery. I am terrified but at the same time, I need it done!

Re: Silly Questions
1) I started bleeding the morning of my surgery and it wasn't an issue.
2) No, you won't have periods if both the uterus and cervix are removed. If you keep the cervix, it's possible to still have "mini periods." Your co-worker is probably confusing the two. The ovaries will (hopefully) continue to produce hormones, so you may still have some of the PMS-type symptoms associated with hormone fluctuation (moodiness, headaches) but no periods.
Good luck with your surgery! I was really scared, too, but I'm so thankful I had it done.

Re: Silly Questions
Thank you. I thought I had understood it correctly but when she said that, I freaked out! My period is supposed to start the morning of my surgery too so that is why I was worried! Thank you!

Re: Silly Questions
My surgery is Sept. 19th...so I will just be 10 days after you! I hate the thought of taking time off of work...because I work in a school and we just went back...but I guess I really cannot control this...it has to be done. Good luck to you!

Re: Silly Questions
You will have a cycle, unless you've been through menopause. The ovaries will continue to produce eggs but they will be reabsorbed into your body.
As noted with cervix removal you shouldn't have any period bleeding, sometimes with the cervix you have the mini-period but a lot of surgeons cauterize the cervix and that prevents any "periods"

Re: Silly Questions
Hi, I had my period at the time and they can most definitely still do the surgery as the nurse put it "we do emergency hysterectomy's all the time due to excessive bleeding" If they are removing your Uterus and Cervix you will not have a period, yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the best part for me, some say they will miss it not me!

So when you say I will have a cycle with the ovaries can you explain that?
